slythindor100 25 Days of Draco and Harry Early Bird #25:
Summary: Christmas at the Burrow...family, frolic, fun, and fighting!
"May we go sledding now, Dad?" asked Lucy.
Percy ruffled his daughter's hair. "I think your Uncle Harry has something better planned."
Freddie appeared skeptical. "What's more fun than sledding?"
"How about a sleigh ride?" said Harry, beaming at George's son.
Cheers went up from the herd of children.
"Get your coats and hats on, everyone," said Arthur.
"Don't forget your scarves and mittens!" added Molly.
Harry and Draco joined the rest in donning coats, hats, and scarves. Harry trotted out the Santa hats he and Draco wore the year before, and they pulled them down over their ears. Last, they each tugged on the warm woolen mittens that Molly had made for them last Christmas.
Draco sighed. "My mittens don't match this jumper."
"Nothing matches that fashion travesty," quipped Harry. He laughed when Draco gave him a shove.
Soon, everyone was pouring out of the house. The children stopped and stared in wonder at the sight before them. Hagrid was waiting out front, at the reins of a sturdy pair of draft horses. The horses were harnessed to an enlarged sleigh, with enough seats for everyone. Bill and Charlie began hoisting the little ones into the sleigh, while Fleur and Audrey got them settled with cozy lap throws.
Once everyone was seated, Hagrid clucked to the team, and the horses lurched into motion. The kids whooped in delight, but the well-trained horses barely flicked their ears. Bells jingled on their harnesses as they clopped down the lane.
"Faster!" cried Dominique.
"These old gals are built for power, not speed," said Hagrid. "A fast walk is about all ye can get out of 'em."
Victoire launched into a merry rendition of Jingle Bells, and the other children joined in. Even some of the adults did. Harry took the opportunity to sneak a hand beneath the blanket he and Draco were sharing. Draco caught Harry's hand where it was traveling up his thigh.
"There are children present," he hissed.
"I only wanted to...fondle your carrot," Harry whispered back.
"Save it for later."
"Prude."
Once Jingle Bells had run its course, Harry called out, "How about singing The Twelve Days of Christmas?"
The kids began to belt it out with youthful enthusiasm, while Draco groaned and swatted Harry in the stomach with the back of his mittened hand. Harry responded with a noise that was half oof and half laugh. He was enjoying himself immensely. The sleigh ride was fun, he was snuggled up Draco, who was fitting in quite well with Harry's mad family, and it was Christmas day.
Harry's tranquil moment of bliss was shattered when a snowball smacked him in the back of the head, knocking his Santa hat askew. He righted his hat and swiveled around to see who had dared accost him.
Ron was smirking at Harry from his seat in the back of the sleigh. "Hah!" he crowed. "Serves you right, mate."
Harry made a rude gesture with his hand, the effect of which was diminished by the mitten he was wearing. Harry huffed and turned to face forward again. Draco chuckled at his expression and patted Harry's knee.
"Five goooooooolden rings..." the children were singing as they continued their song.
Draco leaned close to Harry and whispered, "I happen to prefer silver."
Harry smiled back at him. "I thought you might."
