You're only as old as you feel...

Why do people who aren't really that old act as if they are old? I've had three different co-workers complain about being old recently, and none of them actually ARE old! Is it just that they've had so many different life experiences that they feel like that should actually be much older than they are, and this prompts them to state that they're ( Read more... )

I think it depends on the context of "oh I'm so old"--but I'm sure you know how they meant it better than I do. Sometimes when I'm worn out, sore, and tired, I'll whine about being OLD (as well my brother, who works 2 jobs), but that's different IMO from being younger than forty and freaking out about wrinkles.

When I was in Jr. High, I was asked at a church when I was going to be joining the college group. All my life I've been mistaken for an older child; now, however, I'm getting old ladies at work who want to know if I'm still in high school! It's definitely a switch from what I'm used to, but I keep trying to figure out why the heck they think I'm so young when I'm 24...it can't be the clothes, so maybe it's the "clean living" and staying out of the sun? *shrug*
