Tribal Rendezvous was the BOMB DIGGITY!!!!
I had 2 down points, and the entire rest of the weekend was UP UP UP!
I got up to Idyllwild early and set up my tent...right next to a group of 5 guys. This made me slightly nervous, but when I went to see if I could move to maybe a site next to a family, they were pretty full, so I couldn't. I figured, eh, the sites are too close for me to get into too much trouble, so I let it sit...then I stuck my big ol' knife into the table and sharpened my eyeliner with it when I was getting ready for the performance MUAHAHAHAHHA!
Cafe Aroma was adorable. I drove up and immediately saw Don and Sooz, which made me happy. The area was quaint and sweet, and our stage was tiny, but surrounded by happy people, which is very good. They had set up a table on the level above the area that they were using as a stage for the dancers. This made me happy for several reasons: 1, it meant that we could eat (restaurant was full) 2. it meant that we could sit on chairs instead of standing backstage, and 3, most importantly, it meant that I COULD WATCH THE OTHER DANCERS!!!! I got to see the Om sisters for the first time in like a year. For some reason we are always lined up right next to one another so we never really get to see each other dance. This made me tremendously happy!
The dressing area was huge, comfortable, and so much fun with all the ladies from Ban-Dal, She'enedra, the Om Sisters, HIPLASH, Raven, myself, adn everyone, and Sooz and Rachel popping in to say hi and ask if we were doing okay. The performances were amazing and fun, and I was so inspired by everyone that I got to see! (and nobody boo'd at me, so that made me happy lol).
Don and Trish were heading over to El Diablo, a club in the little town, afterwards, so I went over to meet them. Sadly I had what looked like a drunk 16 year old decide that she wanted to chat me up for 10 minutes, and left out of sheer terror before they showed up.
Back at my campsite, some girls had joined up with the guys next door.....and they were all very drunk, and speakin gvery fast, very loud Japanese, punctuated by the shrill HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHa laugh of one of the drunk girls. At 2 am I went over to ask them to be quiet. They did, for a half hour, then, being drunk, forgot to be quiet and continued to HAHAHAHAHA until 4 am.
I got up at six and got ready to get over to the venue. Setting up wasn't bad, but my second bad point came when my EZ Up broke. I had some help opening it, and one of the kind ladies didn't notice that her corner was slightly twisted, so the ceilinf support snapped.
Crap.
Well, the rest of the day went perfectly. I got to see a bunch of my old friends (HEY BELADIBABY!!!!), make new ones, and turn some acquaintances into friends. It was a workshop venue, so there were periods when everyone was in dancing when it was very slow. Since the courtyard we were selling in was so small, we could wander around to each otehrs' booths while still keeping an eyeball on our own, so I got to actually CHAT with the other vendors, which doesn'thappen very often. What a spectacular time!
The show Saturday night was awesome. The woman who won the raffle for my Triple Chanty skirt seemed to really like it, and even had an event coming up that she wanted to wear it for. That made me happy :D
The next day was a calmer version of the first (campsite next door was quiet until 1:30, then they started up again until I don't even know when, so when I got up at 6 and struck my tent, I did it very loudly...woke them up MUAHAHHAHAHA. They don't call me Karma for nuthin!). I got to spend a lot of time with my new friends, and hang out with Paula and Chandra at the henna booth while Paula drew FANTASTIC art all over me (she had done my troupe's logo the day before on my arm...I sooooo want to get it tattood permanently there!). The drive home was beautiful and went by so quickly, and now I'm running out to get ready to head out to Idaho tomorrow hehehehe.
Busy busy!
