Why Jin loves Maru.

Jin doesn’t think Maru is particularly good looking. Compared to all the people around him, Maru could even be called plain.

I hear that enough, Maru says. And Jin smiles and says, but I love everything else. Maru nods his head in thanks.

Jin loves Maru because he’s Maru.

Maru laughs loudly, his head falling back on Jin’s shoulder. The smile reaches his whole face and his eyes are crinkled. That’s not a reason, he says. It’s a reason, Jin says. He smiles himself.
