I watched some of my friends in a college performance of this very same.

Brecht is one of those playwrights that I feel I ought to like... And yet...

I think Brecht is like a very strict parent. If you like him, he'll feel like he isn't doing his job right! I appreciate his work and thought, but yeah, it can be tough to swallow something you're not meant to enjoy.

I wouldn't be that sweeping with generalizations. The world is full of complexities. We can have both happiness and comfort AND art. I promise!

That's fine if you wouldn't. "Sweeping generalizations" is glib shorthand for "let's never speak of the macro." I would rather be able to change the scope of my lens at will and be able to analyze the diverging stimuli accordingly.

Isn't it all an escape though- whether we're watching something to cover us in a warm blanket of safety or to project us into thinking about deeper truth?

I suppose so-the search for the greater truth can also be an escape of one's daily circumstances, though I'd like to believe that the merit in this particular action outweighs it's potentially ignoble factors.
