I love the word-play in this, and the fact that both of these are things that really happen. We get overwhelmed.

There's such hope in this, such loveliness.

I'm bemused by the "in the west" phrasing, but perhaps it's because (apart from the U.K.), that's the direction away from land. Kind of like being mentally "at sea."
