I chose to write on the two topics that I avoided with my byes: "Failure" and "Solvitur Ambulando".

Cafe Bolan

One humid March day of 2019, I was standing on a 15-inch ledge some 65 feet above ground level.

I was not contemplating the view from said ledge, though I'm sure the sweeping crest of the treetops blanketing the contours of Nam Pha Pa ( Read more... )

So vivid, so breathtaking. It is so hard to fight against one's own limitations, or what we believe to be such. I am so glad you broke through!

I am fascinated by people who climb. I respect gravity too much to try it. One mistake, and splat, there I'd be, a mistake spread over the ground. This was such an interesting entry, and I loved the way you structured it.

Thank you! Once they're feasible again, indoor climbing gyms are good spaces to try without splatting!

This was amazing-I loved getting to see this personal side of you, and of course it makes me want to know more! You're really good in this format; even your prose has a poetic feel to it, but it never comes across too purple. The time-jump format was very effective, as well; I liked how it allowed you to reveal things a bit at a time, relating the time periods in your life to each other. It made the ending so very satisfying. Great work! :)

Thank you, truly! It's not usually my first instinct to speak so directly about my life, but I'm really glad to have toiled and put it out there this time. I love that purple comment-remember Judy Funny from Doug?

I love this! The way you told it, interspersed with the flashbacks, is really great, and your use of language - just the way you describe things - always amazes me. You paint some amazing images that just really draw readers into your world.

Thank you, truly! I don't often gravitate towards prose because I feel the burden to still embody the kind of poetic language I use in other formats, and that makes longer pieces feel like a grind to make. Hearing such thoughtful and supportive feedback is real affirmation that the work is worthwhile, and wonderful motivation to keep pushing forward.
