All of these people gathered together, some of them uneasily, are described so vividly that you can feel their alien-ness to the narrator and the sense that he or she is too intimidated to fully become a participant instead of just an observer.

I know those feelings too well-- that was most of my pre-30 life in a nutshell.

This had such piercing capsule descriptions of the various people around the campfire! The last stanza was excellent.

I think the imagery will haunt me. Your voice is so strong. The characters recognizable and alien at the same time.
