Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door...

The following is a crazy Cliff rambling on Christianity, Absolute Truth, constructed moralities, and hard questions with presented with what is surely only a mere semblance of twisted logic. It is likely rife with poor grammar and unclear thoughts, but hell, this is my personal journal, I shall allow such. I don't expect really anyone to read it ( Read more... )

I'll finish reading later because I'm tired. But this is interesting. And after reading about the Arby's man I have a quote from my friend Jordan,

"I don't think God is petty enough to send us to hell for calling him the wrong name."

Thought you might enjoy that!

Haha! Indeed! Yes, I've actually had lots of interesting talks in my day with random folks about faith and their beleifs... there's actually a second "Arbys Man" story, but that's for another day ;)

...and you said I wouldn't like this. Cliff, this is sociology, not philosophy (or at least close enough to it that I can stomache it). Shame on you, however, for not being a good Christian boy, and instead choosing to seek your own truth (I think that'll piss off more Christians that this post BTW). Reading this seriously makes me want to have the big discourse you were talking about that one time at your house (vague enough?).

Seriously, though, you make good points. Absolute truth is the biggest thing that I've always held against religion. I've grown up being asaulted by one of two things: 1.) "You're gonig to hell if you don't believe the way I do" or 2.) "Please come over to my faith so that you can go to heaven" And it has always pissed me off, one way is looking down on others and saying that you are somehow superior to them because of the way you worship, and the other is forcing your way of life on other people, which upsets me more. I think I'm gonig to stop myself here, but yeah, nice stuff.

I really didn't think you'd like it at first! And yes, we need to have a symposium sometime... sans the boy loving, that is... but yeah, we need to have a hookah talk again sometime. I'm glad to see some people are taking an interest and actually reading this... it's actually doing exactly what I wanted, people from different theological orientations coming together an just questioning, discussing, and thinking. I know, I'm such a hippy, haha.

*hugs Christa* Yay for hookah talks! We need to have another one of those... I remember one time when me and Brian got into a 3 hour philisophical/God talk and discussion while smoking over some good hookah. I still want to read that book when you're finished with it, too! I think I need to make this a series: Cliff's Pontifications! I seriously have a lot more I want to write. But really, the point of my writing is not just to share my thoughts, I want to spark discussion. I want someone to disagree with one of my ideas and explain his/her rationale for disagreeing. I want people from vastly different world-views to discuss these important issues and to try and discover something new. I know, I know... I fully realize I am a dork/hippy/Romantic, but it really is what I want to see happen. The world would be a MUCH better place if people would come together with an open attitude about discussing sensitive issues like religion. Then again, some seem to prefer strapping bombs to themselves or preaching hate and intollerance or going ( ... )

i liked the part about how humans create their own truth and playing God. sadly, i find that so much of the world is filled with their own moral basis that it is hard to return to Gods truth- when so much of the other scribble scrabble conflicts and confuses it.

good stuff cliff. apathetic, but thats what philosophical ramblings are meant to be, right?

Cool stuff, I'm glad you read. And apathetic!?! How is this apathetic? I thought it was delivered with strong diction, actually. haha.

no what i mean is that it is apathetic to any certain religion. it doesn't take a side. but i think thats what you were trying to do.

Precisely! Especially when I write about matters of Religion, God and faith, my side will always be tolerance, love, and open-mindedness coupled with an intellectual curiosity. My goal is for people to read my writings and have no clue where the hell I really stand, that's the fun of it! haha.
