The Prophecy: Uprising

So, I have a fondness for all of the Prophecy films-even the execrable fifth one-because I'm simply Not Rational about badass angels. I mean, come on: Misha as Castiel! Bettany as Michael! Walken as Gabriel! Durand as Gabriel! Andy Whitfield as Gabriel! Tilda Swinton as, um, Gabriel! (Gabriel is popular it seems?) The evidence speaks for itself: ( Read more... )

Is the one with ex-Spartacus any good?

Sean Pertwee: I can't possibly name one thing he was in but the face and gravelly voice is sooo familiar.

John Light: Hey it's that guy. North & South needs a hot threesome like six years ago.

Um ... no? Oh, I enjoyed it, though. They obviously had a budget of about 50p and a cracked copy of After Effects, and they really made the most of it. Andy is ridiculously pretty and angsty in it, and-well, they had me at the 'fallen angels' bit, really. ;)

Sean Pertwee has been in pretty much everything. I love his little squishy face! You might have seen him in Event Horizon? Or Equilibrium?

Yes. Yes, to the N&S threesome! Poor Henry Lennox-I'm sure a Margaret/Thornton sandwich could put a smile on his sour little lemon face, bless him. I did have a look to see if there was any Thornton/Lennox slash out there (think of the testosterone-fueled tension!), but sadly it seems not.

I desperately want to ship him with Gizzy, because John Light played Geoffrey of Brittany in the 2003 Lion in Winter, and IT COULD HAPPEN! I mean, they were almost exactly the same age, and Gizzy was probably in France when Geoffrey ran away with his boyfriend Philip. I am writing fic in my head where they met at a ( ... )

I KNOW, RIGHT? IT WOULD BE LIKE AN OVERDOSE OF MUMMY ISSUES AND EVIL SMIRKING. AWESOME.

In the meantime, there is this awesome Geoffrey/Philip piece by Nary: Pro Anima Dilecti Sui

I love Geoff so, so much, the little machiavellian, woobie blighter.

>"go watch the 2003 version of The Lion in Winter now, people"

[incredulous] They re-made The Lion in Winter? [/incredulous] Speaking of secularly sacrilegious...

I know, I know! I was astounded too. I'm a huge fan of the 60's film. That said, the 2003 version is ... actually pretty good for a mini-series. Glenn Close is really quite fabulous as Eleanor, and she certainly creates some sparks with Patrick Stewart as Henry. The weak points for me are Rafe Spall's cringeworthy John (ugh), and I wasn't entirely keen on the actor playing Richard either, although he's certainly leonine. ;)

Nothing will ever match the 60's version-especially bearing in mind the glorious O'Toole-as-Henry tie-in with Beckett (one of my favourite films ever)-but it's definitely worth a watch if you're as Plantagenet-obsessed as I am.

Oh dear. I'm not sure whether to be giddy or apologetic! I have a funny feeling that the gestalt of my particular set of influences (uh, and my completely bizarre, long-standing crush on Sean Pertwee) made this film especially id-thumping.

I hope you enjoy it!

tl;dr: YAY, MY PIMPING WORKED! :D
