Thanks to Alicia, I now have the episode on my computer and was able to watch the whole thing.

Initially, I found myself in awe of the episode. It seemed daring and bold, with the twist they threw at us with Duncan and Veronica. But now that the episode has had a chance to settle, and I’ve had time to reflect on it, I find myself having issues with some aspects of it.

I think I’ll address both the good things I saw in it, as well as the bad, via the characters.

Madison: She’s almost like the new Cordelia of the series, but she’s meaner, and I hope they keep her that way. Especially after Veronica confronted her about the “Trip to the Dentist” she gave her. “You have no idea what you did to me!” “Oh. My. God. So I spit in your drink. It’s not like you’re scarred for life.” I couldn’t help but laugh, and for the first time ever, I was cheering on Madison in that scene. Because she’s just so oblivious and cruel. And I don’t know why, but Veronica is starting to annoy me.

Dick: is an asshole. The fucker didn’t rape Veronica, but I could see him doing something similar to what he instructed Beaver to do to someone else.

Beaver: I don’t know why, but I kind of think the actor who plays him is hot. What is it with me and these dorky/geeky boy loves now?

Wallace: You’re too good for Veronica. Seriously. If she hadn’t confessed everything at the end there, I would have probably smacked my TV screen. You’re quite possibly one of the best friends I’ve seen on television. Ever. Your patience amazes me.

Keith: Damn. You found Duncan so quickly, but it took you an entire year to find that “Entertainment Lawyer?” I don’t get it. And ohhhh, mommy Mars is back! What’s gonna happen with you and Wallace’s mom?! Drama! I smell drama!

Meg: You’re blonde, and you’re annoying, and you’re just a plot device. Get off the screen. I don’t hate you, but you really have no purpose.

Duncan and Veronica/Duncan/Veronica: Okay. Duncan. I have lots to say about Duncan. And Veronica. And … them.

On FF, I read about how a lot of people said this was the first time they really started to see Duncan and Veronica together. After talking with an objective party who doesn’t watch the show (okay, freaking out to her during it and using a lot of exclamation points: for that I apologize; you know who you are), her response is something that has stuck with me. In short, she basically said that taking advantage of a girl who could be your sister is just gross. The more I thought about it, the more I agreed. And I’m someone intrigued by the psychological aspect of incest, but something about this just seemed wrong to me. I don’t care if Duncan was drugged with the GHB. He was in it enough to know that Veronica was out of it, and not only that, he knows he could be her brother. It doesn’t matter that there’s still probably a good chance that they aren’t siblings. The point is, Duncan doesn’t know that. Duncan thinks she’s his half-sister. And he still had sex with her anyway. That’s just disturbing.

I definitely do get a little of the Flowers in the Attic vibe, at least from Duncan. But the difference between Chris and Catherine and Duncan and Veronica, is that they weren’t under any influences. Chris also technically raped Catherine to, but I won’t get into FiTA right now.

Point, in short: Duncan’s character now has a personality. I’m just not so sure it’s one I like anymore than the bland, boring Duncan we were accustomed to in the beginning of the show.

And this is not a jab at Teddy’s acting. I agree with what most people have said about Teddy’s acting being amazing in this episode. I still can’t bring myself to like his character. I think I’m even more put off now than I was before.

The rape/sex scene/continuity: Something else bugs me about the party scene. First of all, I want to state that I do believe saying the sex was consensual is a major cop out. Whether or not it was Rob Thomas’s cop out or UPN’s cop out is what I’m most interested in knowing. I have a feeling that the rape was originally scripted, or at the very least planned for, but that UPN might have intervened. But then I think about the alternative. Duncan taking advantage of his half-sister. Which is the bigger taboo? Rape, or incest?

And what about the continuity of the story? According to Dick and Beaver, they took Veronica to the bedroom, and she was gone when Beaver left her. According to Duncan, he took care of her and then brought her to the guest bedroom. Alicia mentioned that it’s too big of a discrepancy for Rob Thomas to over look. Is there more to the story? I kind of hope it isn’t over. Because as it is now, it just doesn’t make sense.

Veronica: Something about Veronica is starting to really annoy me. I think first and foremost is the fact that she’d just accept Duncan’s version of the story. She doesn’t remember what happened that night. How does she know he didn’t rape her? Has she forgotten how upset she was when she woke up the morning after? Has she forgotten how disgusted she felt? Or is that just with the notion of Logan having sex with her while she’s unconscious that makes her feel sick and want to take a shower? I mean, this is her ex-boyfriend. He knew she was out of it, and he still went on anyway! I mean, come on Veronica, wake the fuck up. You spent a year-and-a-half wanting to make the person who supposedly raped you pay, and now you’re suddenly more understanding because it was Duncan and he told you it was consensual? Bullshit.

I think I could have respected the storyline more if they kept with the rape storyline, or at the very least, Veronica wasn’t letting Duncan off the hook so easily.

Logan: I love you more and more each week, and you know what? Veronica doesn’t deserve you either. You and Weevil should totally just ditch her, because I’m starting to get this suspicion that Weevil’s gonna start liking her too and it’ll be the Lily thing all over again. I think you two should be my gay couple. You two would be so much better off together than with Veronica. I think it has something to do with the fact that I adore both Jason and Francis.

And he’s getting set up for the red hearing yet again. Just great.

Believe it or not, I’m really excited for the finale. And I have no clue who the murderer is even more. My money was originally on Celeste but now … I just … don’t know. At all.

I REFUSE to let my film class make me late for the finale. REFUSE.

And in random news, I am obsessed with this song right now.
