Saw Sherlock Holmes today. I actually quite enjoyed it, even if it wasn't really Sherlock Holmes so much as Robert Downey Jr as a 19th Century British Detective, or, as the boyfriend suggested, British Iron Man. Even though it was quite far removed from Conan Doyle's original vision, most adaptations for television and screen to this point have been (though perhaps not so overtly). All that deerstalker crap with Watson being one IQ point lower than a shovel? Yeah no. At least Guy Ritchie was open with "HEY, WE'RE GONNA MAKE SUM ACTION SHERLOCK" and heck, that's all I really wanted from a Boxing Day movie.

haha, yeah, I love how Watson is typically short, fat, stupid, and Holmes' father's age. At least this time he got some action, and was, y'know, competent. And not sixty. Haha, true. It wasn't Holmes Holmes, but it was lotsa fun :3

It made me happy to have a useful Watson (plus Jude Law is always easy on the eye) and to some actual action (even if it went over-the-top). It's not going to win any awards for being true to its source but I still had a lot of fun.
