Random tid-bits about Beatrice, for the inquiring minds. Spoilers are under the cut.
How do you intend to stand there, neither alive... nor dead? Not rising into heaven... nor falling into Hell.... there on the peak of Mount Purgatory?
On the gates of Hell, it is written that you must abdandon all hope.
... A human without hope can accept suffering and give up.
However, the residents of Purgatory have hope. A hope of possibly reaching heaven. A hope that cannot be abdanoned.
And that tortures them.
Even in the depths of hell. ... No great torture device exists except for that single pin known as hope...
... You are Beatrice. You must choose whether to take his hand and rise up to heaven, or grab hold of him and fall into Hell.
Is the cat in the box alive, or dead? The time has come to... check. ...If the cat is dead, quickly hold a funeral for it and quickly rise to heaven. If the cat is alive quickly feed it and give it all your affection. Whether it is alive or dead, your cat box eternally desecrates that cat. ..... The key in which you were afraid to open that box has finally been brought to you.
Fly. Fly from the cliffs of Purgatory. ... Take with you the regrets caused by your fleeting, foolish, fragile hopes and open Pandora's Box. Are you scared? Scared of opening the box?
Beatrice.
It's time for you to die now.
I hope... that your heart is stopped by the person you desire.
I. Beato herself is not actually 1,000. It has been said in canon that the master of Rokkenjima is 19. Kinzo is dead when the games begin. Obviously, he's not that young, either. Therefore, Beatrice is not 1,000 years old. The name and title of Beatrice might be that old, but she certainly is not. If anything, she has the knowledge of the previous Beatrice that came before her.
II. My portrayal of Beato is a bit unique from how others might see her. Keep in mind that Beatrice has never left Rokkenjima, as far as we know in canon. Her flashbcks go as far as Virgilia agreeing to take her in as her student, and that's it. For all we know, 'Grandfather' could be Kinzo. With that in mind, Beatrice is much more naive then she let's on. She's can be socially awkward in the sense that she's not used to speaking to others so casually. Or that she's ignorant in celebrating things that might be common knowledge to others. The only way she's actually traveled and came to know of much of what she knows outside of the occult is through books. Random headcanon, really.
REGARDING TURN OF THE GOLDEN WITCH: Shannon looked to her with fear and awe, right? While Beatrice considered her a good friend, there was still that distinct difference between Beatrice and Shannon. Their friendship was very short-lived at the time. Beatrice had told her she she was ' human ' at the time, there was still that obvious air between them. Shannon was still a servant. Beatrice is the master of Rokkenjima. Alchemist of the Ushiromiya Family.
REGARDING END OF THE GOLDEN WITCH: Beatrice is nothing but a figment of Natsuhi's imagination. WING IN HEART = NEVER HAPPENED.
III. Regarding Beatrice and Battler. If there's anyone who's going to effect her, it's him. She's literally surrendered her heart to him. Beatrice isn't trusting. This is something that I've come to think about after speaking to a friend of mine about Battler and Beatrice's relationship. He's come to own her heart, and has discovered the mystery surrounding her as a witch, and possibly the human side of her as well. He's the only one that really, honestly does understand her.
IV. There's a point in canon where Beato refers to herself as Furniture (Game 4: Alliance of the Golden Witch). More random head canon. Or is it? The theme of Umineko no Naku Koroni is love. Without love, the truth cannot be seen. Why is Shannon a human? Because she has love for herself. Beatrice does not. Love is such a powerful force. There's a point in canon where she asks "why am I unable to love?" Why is that Shannon was able to see the blue ocean? There's a difference between the two. Furniture is Furniture because it does no strive to be anything else. Because it knows its purpose. Shannon reached for something outside of that. Shannon found her love. But, Beatrice? Didn't she give up in herself?
V. Without love, the truth cannot be seen. Love is the source of everything in Umineko. Without love, a miracle cannot occur. Without love, without belief, without understanding, magic cannot happen. A miracle can't be reached. If you can't love yourself, then you can't see the blue ocean. If you can't love yourself, you can't be happy. If you don't have love for yourself--if you can't believe--then you cannot become a great witch. If you don't trust in others around you, you won't be able to see the truth in front of you. This was the case with Ange, Battler, Maria (who knew), Kinzo, and the entire Ushiromiya Family. But, in this case, with Beatrice. She couldn't keep her Golden Land in Episode 4. She doesn't have confidence in herself as a Witch. In a way, Battler is her confidence. When her Golden Land fell apart--when she couldn't revive Sakutarou; it was because she couldn't believe in herself.
