7:00 PM / the TARDIS

The Doctor frowned at the coordinates displayed on his screen. America? He didn't even like America - well, he didn't dislike it, but he hadn't been there for awhile. It just didn't have the excitement that Britain did. And the biscuits weren't nearly as good. (In fact, American biscuits just confused him. So did their collective addiction to ( Read more... )

"What? No!" Amy came barreling down the stairs, a scowl of epic proportions upon her face. Coming up to the console, she leaned against it and looked up at the tv screen.

"Why are we taking a detour? And was this your idea or the TARDIS's?" If it was the former she was going to be cross. If it was the latter, she would be even more cross because it meant the Doctor wouldn't get around to fixing whatever malfunction the TARDIS had that kept sending them to the wrong places.

He'd known she would get shouty. It had to be something with the ginger hair, Donna had always been shouty when things went wrong, too.

"Mmm." He leaned back and pretended to study the screen, looking thoughtful. He really liked the way propping his hand under his chin looked in this regeneration, all properly thinky and intelligent and things. It was a nice regeneration, all things considered - though the chin was a little bit on the large side. "Definitely the TARDIS's. She picked up on a mauve alert - coming from America, of all the places. Still, bit better than ending up on a barrage balloon in the middle of the London Blitz, eh?" Except Amy wasn't wearing a Union Jack shirt. He was pretty sure that being Scottish prevented her from doing things like that.

"I... guess so?" She shrugged, not understanding what barrage balloons had to do with anything. Deciding to forget it, she grabbed the handle below the screen and dragged it along its track to get a closer look.

"But where in America?" Giving the Doctor a sharp look, she added, "It had better be near one of the Disney parks."

"New...Mexico?" His questioning tone made it sound like he didn't know where they were. He certainly knew where they were, but he was sort of dragging the bad news out in order to give Amy more time to adjust. Or something like that. He hit a few buttons on the console, switching the display to the view outside the TARDIS. "Which is a lot less desert-y than I'd first assumed, apparently." In fact, they seemed to be inside some sort of building, no cacti in sight. Some sort of very institutional-looking building, with long corridors and lockers and-

"School! We must be in a school. After hours, of course. Blimey, I'm getting deja vu from this - stay away from the chips, Amy."
