I just put some wool out for the sparrows to use in their nest - we have house sparrows nesting in the roofspace. But that's another story!

Aww, poor Cockie II! I have no doubt you'll feed him up in no time. And what a great poem, thanks for sharing it.

I just love the fun words I'm gleaning: 'hirpling' (which I had heard before but had forgotten) and now 'dreepit' which makes perfect sense.

And I totally understand the feeling guilty; I felt guilty for months about the titmice, cardinals, finches, wrens and juncos I left there. But now I have a whole crop with far more goldfinches.

Loved the poem!

We used to have a little coterie of common pheasants living in the field, one female and two argumentative males. Okay, not the cleverest of birds, but the males are so gloriously handsome.

I'm sure with regular feeding the next generation of blackbirds will get tamer!

That's a nice range of birds to see regularly. I have a soft spot for coal tits, they're my favourite small bird :)
