First of all: squee! The Sandman comics might just be my favorite stories in the world as I read Dream's story at a time when the ending really hit me like a punch in the soul so to speak.

So, which books have you read? "Preludes&Nocturnes" and "Time of your Life" obviously and "Endless Nights". Have you read all the major volumes finishing with Kindly Ones and The Wake? Endless Nights is partly set after The Wake so you might have spoiled yourself a little.

Delight doesn't have her own story in Endless Nights because she is Delirium now. And yes, there are only the seven of them.

As to why there is no Hope in itself...I don't know.

Dream's helmet, if I remember correctly, is the head of some old demon.

As for the resemblance, I dimly recall and interview where he answered that question and he said something along the lines of it being incidental. Mostly he wanted Dream to wear lots of black as it seemed to fit the character.

I have only read "The Doll's House" of the actual Sandman volumes. Am goign very slow and didn't have the nerve for really long stuff as the bad conscience overwhelms me once in a while.
I thought "Endless Nights" was a prequel? Especially the story with Dream. That explained the hatred between him and Despair, I thought.

Well, my memory is bad anyway. I'll forget the details soon.

Delight --> Delirium, ah, I see. :-)

I asked my bro who borrowed the CDs and read all of the actual Sandman volumes and he explained it this way: the Endless do not only define themselves but their opposites as well. Death defines Life, Dream defines Reality, so Despair defines Hope.

Maybe that demon was a relative of Beelzebub? ;-)

Yeah, I wouldn't admit writing myself into my stories either. ;-) I guess the resemblance between him and Crowley and between him and Shadow are incidental, too.

Well, the next volume, Dream Country, is actually 4 self-contained stories so you could read those without getting into that place where you just have to keep on reading to find out what happens ;). Which was with me the fourth volume. The fifth volume is also a collection of "stand alones", of which a lot do have a connection to the "main story" in hindsight, though ( ... )

I finished "Season of Mists" today. :) Loved the beginning with Destiny telling Death to "dress formally" and she pouting that next thing he'll make her get a scythe. *lol*
Delitirum is ... eh, interesting, too. Her butterflies were pretty.

I guess whatever happened with Destruction will be revealed later? I did notice that his statue was turned around and his picture was veiled in the Destiny-story of Endless Nights. But I have no clue what it means. I also noticed that Dream's statue was covering his face. Also no clue concerning that. I will see, I suppose.

Ah, that explains the helmet somewhat. :)

I'd rather hope that Gaiman himself isn't like Dream as that might make him a difficult person to be around ;).
Well, if he is, there is only one way to deal with that: draw a teardrop/spiral under your eye and try to cheer him up. ;)

First of all, I added you to my friends list. Hope you don't mind. My favorite Endless should be obvious. Delerium who used to be Delight. I believe she was probably the closest we are going to get to a personification of hope, twisted by time and pain.

Thanks for adding me! I added you back. :) (Just out of curiosity, how did you find me?)

I'm not very far with the Sandman comics, but so far, I really like Delirium. I don't know if I would equal Delight with Hope ... I had the impression she was rather the personification of a slightly naive innocence that was overwhelmed by reality, twisted by time and pain as you put it so nicely.

I hope I don't bore you to death with this... nnylrac March 28 2007, 12:58:16 UTC
Well it's a little complicated but I'll explain how I found you as best I can. First, I do an interest search. On the interest search it lists other LJer's who are also interested in that subject. In this case I think it was Watership Down. I've been playing a game with myself in which I am trying to get someone on my Friends list for each letter of the alphabet. So then I look through the list of LJer's for someone with the letter I'm looking for. I read a bit of their journal, and then I look over their profile. If I like the look/feel of the journal, and I feel that we would have enough common interests that we will like each other, I friend. And hopefully that person will friend back. It's been moderately sucessful. The game originally started when one of my best friends and my brother and most of his friends went to myspace(I don't like myspace), and I started to get a little lonely on here.
