I feel like writing tonight. Right. Desire is such an overbearing emotion. It can be applied to so many aspects in our lives. It's like you see this or that, or think this or that.....and you NEED to have it. I guess some would say that we are such an insidiously consumerist society. The whole problem with consumerism is that it is so captivating ( Read more... )

you're absolutely right. money and consumerism suck. I'm stuck between the decision to be a poverty-stricken artist of some sort or a successful nothing.

but if you dont have desire and thirst for something MORE in your life, what is there to work towards? if you simply are satisfied with what you have, you will revel in your surroundings, perhaps be happy for a time, but what will you be working towards. George Carlin said - "No artist is pleased...there is no satisfaction whatever at any time. there is only a queer, divine dissatisfaction, a blessed unrest that keeps us marching and makes us more alive than others." The fact that you are an artist, a musician, means you must DESIRE to be alive. THAT IS life. Yes i agree that most of the junk we work our lives away for is asanine, the crap we fill our houses and bodies with, however, you and i NEED desire itself to keep the fire burning inside our bellies, the DESIRE to get better at what we do, that unrelenting desire to reach our goals. i dont think your problem is with the human condition of desire, but rather the fact that we have so much shit shoved in front of our faces all the time that fucking dope idiots like 99% of people ( ... )

Well yes, desire can be a great thing. And it is, especially as a musician like you said. But, my main point is being that if you let your desires overcome you, it just leads to an extreme sense of hurt within the individual in most cases. You can have that fire burning inside you, the thing that drives you most to do what you love for having something in the future...but if you don't learn to control that emotion, you might always be wanting to create a future for yourself...and never taking the time to actually create the future. That's why I say, if you desire to be a musican, desire to want to become something in the music industry....then don't sit there and just desire it. You learn to control that emotion once you begin writing the music, forming the band, doing what you love 100% and not letting anything get in your way because it's what YOU want to do...because then you are on your way to something as oppose to sitting there watching movies about your dream life, reading stories about it, and not doing shit about it. Good luck getting people behind this one. Though you make some VERY fascinating points, youre going to have to do more than bring up a few things that may be different than what weve already heard. What are trying to say here? What do you want us to think? It seems like you cant really get behind a unique thought. Anyway, thats just my opinion.
