Cow powered cow car? anonymous August 29 2004, 01:24:01 UTC
I would like to know where you got that statistic about the hamburger. Please leave it in a reply. Are you suggesting that we start running our vehicles on cow meat? Why not just pull are cars with cows to begin with? I bet one cow can pull 600 miles on a single hamburger patty. Quick, get the news out to everyone so we can all "realize".

lol...you are an idiot. A big anonymous idiot.

What she is saying is that if you took all of the energy which is burned in the process of producing that one McDonald's hamburger - from the time the cow is born to the time the frozen patties show up at the actual restaurant - you could have driven a small car 20 miles. (I wouldn't be surprised if you could actually get more mileage - I don't think the example she cited even factors anything prior to slaughter and processing into the equation.) If we stuck to foods that grow in the ground, and we each grew our own share, instead of mass producing hamburgers, we'd conserve energy. That's the logic.

I didn't think you had to be too smart to figure that one out.

H2 Terrorism on the RISE!!!!! OH GOD LOOK OUT! PART 1 anonymous August 29 2004, 01:13:55 UTC
This is the most invalid argument I have ever seen. You are claiming that the H2, because of its excessive gas consumption, requires more oil, which breeds terrorism?? That is interesting, because when the terrorism of the late 19th century was taking place in the Philippines, I don’t believe hummers were for sale. I am in complete agreement with you that we need to become an energy efficient country, but I don’t agree with your argument because it fails to explain almost ALL terrorism, most of which occurs outside of the United States. Muslim countries have always been very open to economic exchange, look at the Islamic Golden Age of the 8th and 9th century, and you will see that mostly Christians and Jews were doing the business transactions with and more importantly, within Muslim society (ancient Muslim customs looked down on the merchant class because they felt they made a living on others hard work). Than take a look at the Ottoman Empire, another Muslim society, again a society which was open to trade with the west. Fast ( ... )

H2 Terrorism on the RISE!!!!! OH GOD LOOK OUT! anonymous August 29 2004, 01:19:09 UTC
I agree with you that we need to demand more fuel efficient vehicles, and we need to demand that our government does business with stable and trust worthy nations (Saudi Arabia is the last country that should EVER be on that list), but to equate H2 purchases with terrorism is insane. Oh, and if you read that article, the Federal tax cut is for “new or used vehicles that weigh more than 6,000 pounds” and you have to be a business owner to receive the tax credit, not just an everyday consumer. I was a small business owner, and I owned a truck without which I would not have been able to do business. This is obviously another case of broad legislation that did not take into account the fact that private citizens would take advantage of the way in which it was written. Buying a H2 with a small business tax right off for any other purpose than conducting business is dishonest, and that fault my friend lays solely on the solders of the individual who chooses to abuse a system which was set up to benefit everyone ( ... )

jump to conclusions much? endseptember August 31 2004, 01:23:51 UTC
Well, in all of your anonymous reactionary ranting, you managed to completely miss the point. And I believe you're flat out wrong in several instances. I'd like to engage you in a debate, but I don't even know who you are or why you're commenting anonymously in my journal.

While I applaud your historical knowledge on the topic of terrorism, I must criticize your lack of a complete and well-rounded understanding of it, especially as it pertains to modern times.

There are very diverse and intricate motivations behind each of the "terrorist" movements you mention above. All of them are different. Religious factors certainly play a role, but to say that all terrorism is rooted in religious ideology is a blatant overgeneralization. That would be just as ridiculous as if I were to say that all terrorism stems from the fact that Americans drive fuel-INefficient vehicles, which is something (despite your allegations) which I did not say ( ... )
