PERSONALITY
Aqua is that big sister who you can always rely on to be there when you need her. She's the responsible and serious type who's equally kind and compassionate. She also comes with a side of badass as a Keyblade Master. Spending several years of her life training as an apprentice under Master Eraqus, Aqua has developed a strong sense of morality, making her a strong and kind-hearted young woman. She'll help take charge of situations to right any wrongs, even if the victims of the wrongs are people she’s just met. She's very proper and polite to those she meets, giving respect no matter who the other person is. One example of this is how she will even kneel down to one knee to those who are shorter than she is so she can talk to them properly (Minnie, Kairi and Mickey being examples).
One major aspect of Aqua that shapes her personality is her relationship with her friends. They're what's most important to her and give her the drive to keep going. She was almost always thinking about them, and a lot of times she was asking Terra to stay strong for her. She always believed in him, and anyone trying to make her doubt him would face her wrath as she defended him. As their journey was coming towards the end though, Aqua was worried what was to become of the three of them, clinging to her Wayfinder and hoping they’d all make it. Even though she sometimes wanted to give up, her belief in her friends was strong and that strength helped her out along the way.
Because her bond with her friends is so deep, Aqua looks out and does everything she can possibly do to protect and keep them safe. She's constantly worrying about both Terra and Ven while trying to keep an eye on them, which at one point even puts a bit of a strain on their friendship. When the boys found out about Master Eraqus’ request for Aqua to make sure Terra didn’t sway, neither of them reacted very well, Terra with anger and Ven with disappointment and annoyance. Aqua didn’t see what was wrong with her ways at first though, continuing to be adamant about her choices. Even though they were her best friends, Aqua wasn’t hesitant to be a bit harsh with them (particularly Ven) if it meant that she was doing something to “protect” them. After the fact though when she realized how she was behaving, she did regret it and her first response was guilt. She’s careful to keep her feelings a bit more in check after that, but she’s never stopped worrying or mothering the two boys.
Aqua believes that love and light will triumph over darkness, and that the strength of their bonds will never fail. She was shown to be very selfless when it came to protecting Terra, especially at the end with how she sacrificed herself to save him. She wandered through the Realm of Darkness for countless hours and days, slowly losing her faith in the bond. When she was surrounded by several Heartless she almost gave up hope and succumbed to the powers of darkness, but Terra's and Ven's Keyblades helped her and gave her strength to continue on. Thinking of them and every other friend she'd met along the way gave her hope again and made her believe that there was always a way.
Another side to Aqua that she doesn't show that much is her tender and feminine side. She does her best to be the calm and collected one of the group, but she's also not shy about being very affectionate towards Ven in that big sister sort of way, continually ruffling his hair and teasing him. Even with the mature front she puts up, she can still laugh and be silly at times. Depending on the situation, she can also slip up and lose her composure, like the time she became flustered when Zack asked her out on a date. The other times she's lost her cool tend to be when she was angered, one great example being when Vanitas had broken the wooden Keyblade Terra had given to Ven, so she retaliated by fighting him in a fierce battle ...but not before calling him a freak.
