I was just reading the recent dialog of Ms. Francis, who seems to be on the verge of losing her research bonus prize, half her income over the coming year. Half of me nodded, thinking, "Well, that's what normal people have to do when their parents aren't rich, work their little asses off".

Yes, Francis. That is what normal people have to do...

But please realize this: I already *am* working my ass off. You know, better than anyone else, how hard I work. You know that I've rarely, if ever, had a work week that amounts to less than 60 hours. The research assistantship is not free magical money: it's paid labor, just like waiting tables, except that it entails a different set of tasks to be completed in exchange for a paycheck.

I am not asking for $12,000 in exchange for nothing. I am asking that I be allowed to continue working for it and earning it.

I don't know why; I just felt the need to clarify. Probably because I am feeling stressed and tense and generally upset...
