Fortune cookies has its (sorta) roots in China though. In ancient China, mooncakes are used to transmit messenges in times of conflict. So technically, they modified the container of the messages, that's all. =D
I had to look up mooncakes on wikipedia because I didn't know what they were. They look delicious, I'll have to see if any of the Asian markets carry them next month, because it sounds like they're a seasonal 'August' thing.
At the same time, being 'seasonal' and all (we only get them for the Lantern/Mooncake Festival around August), it is ridiculously overpriced even for a country which gets them yearly.
But I hope you'll be able to try them. They're a rather sweet treat ;-)
