Have you seen Canada's Mushroom House? It was built by an artist craftsman over the course of many years. Atlas Obscura says it took him 22 years, but my first encounter with the house, when it was for sale many years ago, had a figure of 30. There are a few sample photos at Atlas Obscura, but I haven't been able to find the full, interactive 360 panoramic views the real estate company displayed so long ago. I truly fell in love with that house, enough so that if I could afford it I might even be willing to brave Canada's cold for it. And I really, really don't like the cold.
In a completely different direction (both literally and figuratively), there's a group in Mexico called Flying Concrete that makes houses with lightweight concrete. They incorporate lots of natural shapes, but in unexpected ways, and some of their work becomes downright Seussian. I love those, too ( ... )
