When Headmistress McGonagall hears this insult being hurled across the Great Hall by the redheaded daughter of Ron and Hermione Weasley as she sits at the Head Table, sipping the goblet of pumpkin juice in front of her, she smiles to herself, knowing history has just repeated itself. Down the table, Professors Flitwick, Sprout and Slughorn also smile into their own goblets, eyes twinkling as they reminisce the infamous Lily and James Potter arguments from when the two and the Marauders had attended the school nearly half a century ago. The four teachers know that, sooner or later, Scorpius Malfoy will grow up and stop annoying the hell out of one Rose Weasley, and that, sooner or later, that Rose Weasley will accept Scorpius Malfoy's offer of a date, and, sooner or later, they will end up together.
But what they don't know, as they sit and watch this generation of students, is that it will take the two a couple of locked rooms and a considerable amount more of mistletoe, as well as three and a half months of sharing Head duties, for it all to happen.
When Scorpius and Rose do finally enter the Great Hall on the morning of Christmas morning, his arm wrapped firmly around her waist, the staff have a good laugh in the staff room later as they remember the events exactly forty-seven years ago.
