Houston was excited and happy. Very much so. He usually had to chase Texas down to give him his yearly physical and any vaccine boosters he needed, but Texas had actually come to him. That alone made his entire day seem so much brighter.
He even held out his bowl of lollipops for Texas to take one. He had been that cooperative.
Texas stared at the bowl for a moment, before picking out a red one. Off came the wrapper and he popped it into his mouth.
Houston replaced the bowl and sat down in front of him. "You look alright, Tex. Except ya know there's somethin' we need to talk about."
Texas nodded, pulling the candy out of his mouth to speak. "Roslyn."
The city was obviously surprised. "W-well, I was thinkin' about your smoking but... Is something wrong with Roslyn? She sick?"
"Hm... Lovesick, if anythin'." Texas was testing the water, so to speak, to see if Houston would reveal anything.
"Love...sick? I can't really help with that."
"Oh quite the contrary, seein' as she's pinin' after you."
Houston froze; Texas knew. He just stares at the state, eyes wide, trying to not let Texas see how hard he had just choked. "She...wh-what?"
"She's got a crush on you, clear as day. Told me as much."
The whole of his life started to flash before Houston's eyes. Before he could say anything, Texas continued.
"An', as it's apparent she's been tryin' to replace you with random med students, I was wagerin' she hadn't said anythin' to about it. So I'm doin' it."
Houston stammered. Nothing in particular or comprehensible, but he stammered. Texas rolled his eyes.
"Do you have anythin' to say, or...?"
It took another moment for Houston to get his thoughts together. "S-so what're you sayin'? Stay away from her?"
The state shrugs. "That's up to you."
"...Come again?"
"She's dated alot-a stupid, careless, undependable boys. Alot of'em. An' I'm sure I ain't even met near all of'em. But she's got her sights on you, an' you ain't just another stupid human guy that's gonna get old an' die way before she does."
"...Tex- Just- What'r e you tryin' to say?"
"Think about it."
"...About what? You're just statin' facts now."
"No- Think about her, alright?"
"...How?"
Texas sighed and stood, twirling his lollipop around in his fingers. "With your brain. You're usually good at it. I just wanted to make you aware. What you do about it's up to you. But, just so ya know- I won't get on your case about it either way."
With that, the state gave Houston a small wave and left the office.
Houston passed out and fell off of his chair.
When he woke up again a few minutes later, he got up and proceeded to do what he did best: fret.
