Here's that post-every-3-months that let's me keep my LJ. Hurray hurrah.
http://www.last.fm/user/Thryn7686/ Post your top ten bands/artists, the first song you heard of theirs, the song that made you fall in love, and your current favourite.
1) Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
First song I heard: "In This Home On Ice". My Calc II professor played music during class, and this came on in the middle of him teaching arc length.
I fell in love when I heard: "Is This Love?" At first listen, it's catchy. Then you keep listening to the lyrics... and they become creepy but funny.
My current favorite: Still "In This Home On Ice".
2) Wolf Parade
First song I heard: "I'll Believe in Anything". I was told to buy their album, so when I found it for $8, I snapped it up and listened to this track.
I fell in love when I heard: "I'll Believe". That first listen had me signed, sealed, and delievered.
My current favorite: Probably "Grounds for Divorce".
3) Led Zeppelin
First song I heard: God... probably Stairway, but the first song that I knew was Zeppelin was "Immigrant Song", when watching School of Rock.
I fell in love when I heard: Hmm... I'd say "Black Dog".
My current favorite: It's a cross between "Houses of the Holy" and "Trampled Under Foot". But almost any Zeppelin song can make me smile. Zeppelin introduced me into the world of classic rock, so they oughta be first on this list.
4) The Arcade Fire
First song I heard: I bought the album early in '05, started with the first track "Neighborhood #1"... and promptly couldn't stand it. But something kept me interested in the back of my mind. Sooooo...
I fell in love when I heard: That summer, I delivered pizzas, so I started listening to the album again. And I LOVED IT ALL. For some reason, I couldn't believe I didn't like it before. I listened to that album through hundreds of delieveries.
My current favorite: Cross between "Wake Up" and "Rebellion", although "My Heart is An Apple" is awesome. I listen to their albums so much in the car, they honestly oughta be first on this list. They brought me into the realm of indie rock, which I'm still exploring, and couldn't be happier with it.
5) Sufjan Stevens
First song I heard: Whatever the first track is. Sufjan's title can be scary-long.
I fell in love when I heard: "Come On! Feel the Illinoise!" and "Chicago".
My current favorite: I recently been looping "They are Night Zombies!". At one point you can hear 6 or 7 or hundred different distinct parts playing at once, and I love it!
6) Modest Mouse
First sone I heard: "Float On", along with most of America.
I fell in love when I heard: "3rd Planet", "Gravity Rides Everything" and "Dark Center of the Universe" in a row.
My current favorite: I honestly haven't listened to Modest Mouse in awhile. I got stuck on "Lives" for a month or so and moved on to a new album.
7) Broken Social Scene
First song I heard: "Our Faces Split the Coast in Half", just because it's the first track on the newest album.
I fell in love when I heard: Oh, definitely "7/4 (Shoreline)". The fact it's in that different meter, and the purely awesomenest just sold me. I looped that one track for days and days.
My current favorite: Still "7/4", although "Swimmers" makes for a good break.
8) The White Stripes
First song I heard: "Fell in Love with a Girl". I saw that video and was blown away by the rockin' drums and the funky Legos.
I fell in love when I heard: Hm, I dunno. I always liked them, but never bought an album until Get Behind Me Satan. That whole album had me sold.
My current favorite: "The Denial Twist", by a long shot.
9) Blue Man Group
First song I heard: How about their live Vegas show? Would that count? Because it was fucking amazing!
I fell in love when I heard: Same as above. Everyone should see their show as these once in their life. I went out and bought Audio in the gift shop.
My current favorite: "Rods and Cones". My favorite track since the bought the album.
10) The Futureheads
First song I heard: "Decent Days and Nights". Another summer album from my pizza delivery times. I listened to Arcade Fire, White Stripes, and this for 3 months.
I fell in love when I heard: "Decent Days" for sure, but also "Danger of the Water". The whole album races around at breakneck speed, and this one track is the only one to slow it down. And it's a capella.
My current favorite: Gotta be "Hounds of Love". Even though it's a cover, their version is one of my favorite indie rock love songs.
Thanks if you read all that. :)
