The big thing this year was that somehow, unexpectedly, I went from being an unknown to being that guy who made those maps. Things that I made have appeared in more national and international media than I can keep track of, and people whose work I have long admired from afar know who I am ( Read more... )

Woof. Memorable year.

Sorry about the mortality. My coworker had gout, it sucks. Even if it does sound charmingly old-school.

I like those hopes.

Thanks! The gout is not actually too bad -- it has only really been a problem on a few days, and it provides an explanation for symptoms I have had off and on for a long time.

I understand the mortality thing. This year introduced high blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol issues, iron deficiency anemia, and a few other things for good measure!

Also, totally understand the work frustration. On the other hand, I completely envy you the passionate hobbies that keep you going. I need to find a few of those.

Yeah, it's not terrible, just proof that my body can no longer magically fix everything that goes wrong with it.
