So, since my brain can't handle words and writing these days, I decided to finally make good on a gen fanmix I said I'd do for myself months ago. This is dedicated specifically to the kids of Mystic Falls (Elena, Bonnie, Caroline, Tyler, Matt, Jeremy, duh). I have so many feelings about them and the crazy lives they got stuck living (oh MATT), it hurts. HURTS. The songs can be interpreted for whomever however you wish unless specified by name next to the title line. While there are specific song covers, those were chosen for FEELINGS' sake and not meant to mold how you listen to the song. But do as you wish. Basically, fun, friendship, love, laughs and tears, pain (lots of it because this show) and delight, and survival even when the world keeps kicking you in the face. Quite literally.
I did attempt to not make this a maudlin experience, the show is enough of a tragedy on its own. I did not, however, even attempt to not be a pretentious ass (two Radiohead songs, really, Maggie?). Whatever. Someone teach me how to photoshop.
Enjoy! (And tell me if there are problems with any downloads)

i. STRAWBERRY SWING | frank ocean (these are the memories that'll stay with us forever)
when we were kids
we hand-painted strawberries on a swing
every moment was so precious then
i'm still kicking it
i'm daydreaming
on a strawberry swing
the entire earth is fighting
all the world is at its end
just in case
an atom bomb
comes falling on my lawn
i should say
and you should hear
i've loved
i've loved the good times here
i've loved our good times here
ii. CRY WHEN YOU GET OLDER | robyn (this isn't how our lives were supposed to be, Elena)
she said: "there just must be more to life than this"
he said: "careful, cause you might just get your wish"
hey girl in the strobing light
what your mama never told you
is love hurts when you do it right
you can cry when you get older
young boy by the traffic light
what your daddy never told you
is love hurts when you do it right
you can cry when you get older
back in suburbia kids get high and make out on the train
then endless incomprehensible boredom takes a hold again
and in this other dream i'm on top of the world, ahead of the game
think of reality and it hits me hardcore to the brain
we've got to get away
iii. QUEEN OF THE GAS STATION | lana del ray (for the girls)
give me coffee, utah love
i'm the kind of girl you dream of
i'm trying to tell you what i dream of
and that's gas stations
with slurpee machines and organs playing
iv. THE WORLD IS FALLING | mirah (none of us is gonna make it out of this place alive)
tell me once again if everything is as it seems
if things are getting better, what's that crashing down the stream
the wind, you say, the storm that came, remember our retreat
and darker days might come and stay, and signal our defeat
v. 4 MINUTE WARNING | radioheadthis is just a nightmare
but soon i'm going to wake up
someone's gonna bring me around
vi. BROKEN BONES | aqualung (for all, in threes)
this is a story 'bout the three of us
down by the water and the tide is rising
this world is burning and i'm terrified
i need a little more time with you, oh
i just need a little more time with you
one fine day you'll sing
your inevitable love song
inevitable lie song
inevitable cry song
time bends broken bones
time bends broken bones
'til they wrap around your throat
and snap around your fingers
vii. TIME MACHINE | robyni remember the words
how i said them, so they would hurt
but then, i regret my actions
if i could press rewind
rewind the take
redefine the line
we make mistakes
take it back in time,
just one day ... hey
so all i need is a time machine
a one way track cause
i'm taking it back, taking it back
all i want is a delorean
if i could go just like that
i'll be taking it back, taking it back.
viii. HOWL | bat for lasheshowl into the night
to the still of the dark
shout into the silence
and etch out your bark
how angry you are
you won't take it anymore
and watch as the people run to your door
they hurt your heart
they hurt it well

i. ON THE RADIO | regina spektor (we always survive)
this is how it works
you're young until you're not
you love until you don't
you try until you can't
you laugh until you cry
you cry until you laugh
and everyone must breathe
until their dying breath.
ii. HALLELUJAH | thao & mirahif you start to think that it's all over now
that the work you have done has been lost somehow
you wake up hungry in this world you've made
so much so how could you be turned away
under thunder we drove through a black sky,
paved with the threat we might die, oh we were so afraid
you can throw your body up against the glass but you can't stop the rain
from pouring in once the cracks have been made
iii. THIS WOMAN'S WORK | greg laswell (for the girls)
i know you've got a little life in you left
i know you've got a lot of strength left
i know you've got a little life in you yet
i know you've got a lot of strength left
iv. ANNIE YOU SAVE ME | graffiti6 (change into warmer clothes, we're going to the falls. smores, camp fire, cake - like when we were little!)
just when i'm finding it hard to breathe,
you lift the weight inside of me.
oh baby i see the light that's burning bright, and we're the stars
v. COME CATCH ME | emikafor me, in this moment, feels like everything stopped turning
for me, you’re the moment when i stop pressing forward and i let it all go
for you, you’re caught up in it too
i got you in this moment.
feels like everyone keeps moving
feels like everyone keeps moving and i can’t let go
