A Tale of Dragons"Gather around, children," she said, nestling in her privileged spot near the fireplace. It was a windy, rainy day and the three girls and one boy were beginning to drive their parents crazy. It was too cold and too muddy for them to play outdoors, and the wind was howling with the promise of overnight snow. The siblings jostled ( Read more... )

What a great, but hard moral. "Let not your hungers rule your lives..." I probably needed to hear that today. A hard truth but a necessary one. Thanks for sharing!!

Thank you so much for reading and commenting. I'm having fun joining all of you, although I'm probably not at top level, I'm at least finding I can swim in the LJ Idol ocean.

This was just wonderful! It started getting really sad for me the moment the King had decreed all of the birds should die, and I like that you had the townspeople not necessarily acting as a mindless mob - mentioning that there were people that missed seeing the dragons, the boy specifically saying he "feared" the dragon was dead... that really helped push through the emotional impact. You managed to get me emotionally invested very rapidly!

Thanks so much. I'm delighted that you got caught in the story, since that's what the Storyteller intended. I'm sure the children occasionally still think of the dragons and miss something that they never knew - that small bit of extra magic in the world that is gone forever.

Such a sad story, but told in a very beautiful way. I like the symbiotic relationship of the birds and dragons. And I appreciate that the townsfolk seemed to understand what they might be missing, though I imagine they also lived in terror under the dragons, as well.

Same! It's such a talented group of writers. I do love the way this encourages me to write and push myself out of my comfort zones.
