Here is some faulty logic:

Since there would be fewer minority students without affirmative action, affirmative action must be successful in preventing discrimination against minorities.

Why isn't this just as plausible:

Since there would be fewer minority students without affirmative action, affirmitive action must be successful in giving more credit to minority students than they are normally due.
