Got 2 free energy monitors from British Gas - one because I'm a poor deafie who can't afford anything, and one because I switched to Energy Smart (even though I only use British Gas for gas, not electricity). These things are using current-clamp sensors, so are making assumptions about the power factor and (presumably) the voltage. I wouldn't rate their accuracy very highly at all for cumulative readings, though they're adequate for their intended purpose of giving a quick visual indication of how much load you've got.

How do they compare to the electricity meter (time a few revolutions/flashes)? The meter will be accurate.

I bet you I'll spend more electricity powering those displays and on batteries for the sensors, than what I'd save from using those things...
