This took slightly longer than I expected because I ended up being quite busy on my days off and then I worked Thursday and Friday.
But we now have Chapter 2 of this hopefully fascinating saga.
The writing on the teaser is pink because I use the eye dropper to grab a colour from somewhere on the image so that it all looks natural-like. I should have gone with the yellow from the daisies...
ONWARD!
See Bob.
See Bob type.
Type, Bob. Type!
Bob wants to make a whole lot of money and has a whole lot of wishes to do with writing and novels. In fact, that is all he ever wants to do: read, write and somehow make money from reading and writing. So Bob is writing a sci fi novel called "The Strangeness Of Our Town". It was that or "1948". So I decided to go with my own amusing title of hilarity.
Anyway, this is Bob Newbie.
This is his mother, Mags. For some reason I really really like her. I don't know why. She has some really normal, boring traits but for a mysterious reason she appeals to me.
And this is Robert, Bob's father. He has razor-cheeks. And also appears to be high most of the time. It's just eyes and not cat-sniffing, since there are no animals in this game. Yet.
I don't know if it's really noticeable from these few pics but the Newbies have a really kick-arse modern house. Based on how Bob looked when he went over to Betty's house, I was sure this was going to be some sort of "rich girl marries poor boy from the wrong side of the tracks" story. But apparently that doesn't happen until Brandi hooks up with Skip.
I decided that this time around I wanted someone to have a baby and Mags and Robert were more than happy to go for gold. And lo, a lullaby was heard! :D
Robert appears to be a bit of a freak. He's scary.
24 hours passed and Mags figured out she's up the duff.
Bob donated to the Pools Without Ladders charity.
I just about pissed my pants laughing.
Their house has the "beautiful vista" moodlet attached to the lot. I wonder why?
Mags was starting to show so she announced the pregnancy to Bob.
The pregnant belly interactions are one of the things the developers did right with this game. Sims do them autonomously a lot more often than they do in TS2. Or at least my TS2 sims are a bunch of cold fish and my TS3 sims coo over pregnant tummies all the time.
I looked around for stuff that the family could achieve and Robert has the Perfect Aquarium for his Lifetime Wish. This means that he wants to catch 15 different types of fish of "perfect" quality. I sent him fishing and to my amazement he already had a couple of points in the fishing skill so he catches fish much bigger than a minnow.
Tell you what, going by what he's caught up until now, I'm glad I live in Australia with all our poisonous snakes and spiders because I'd hate to live in Simlandia where they have 9kg piranhas!
Mags was on a watermelon diet throughout pregnancy.
And then it was time to go to hospital. I've done a home birth in this game and I'd rather just send them to hospital. The home birth was like watching paint dry. For a very long long time. It was boring as bat shit.
In TS2 a sim screams, carries on and then promptly gives birth to a baby or two,
In TS3 a sim screams and huffs a couple of times, then stands at attention for about 15 seconds. This is then repeated over and over for several game hours. No shit, the sim screams, huffs, then stands at attention over and over for hours on end. I was screaming at the screen "GET ON WITH IT!!!!!" but the agony of watching this crap just went on and on and on and on... So now I always send them to the hospital. My curiosity about a home birth has been satisfied and I'd rather stick a pencil in my eye. So not worth it. I thought it would be quicker than the hospital. But it's not. And it's even more boring than watching the front door of the hospital.
When I was in labour there is no way I would have been able to run out to the car like Mags. I dunno. Giant 9kg piranhas vs being able to run while in labour... I'm seriously starting to weigh up the pros and cons of living here or in Simlandia.
When I saw this I was all "WTF??? Where did the pink car come from???"
The damn thing looks black while in Robert's inventory. I had no idea that the Newbies had a pink Kompressor.
Then I got distracted by the night sky.
And the moonlit vista out the front of the Newbie place.
Out the front of the hospital Mags merged with Robert then walked around him about 5 times. This is an ancient pre-birth ritual performed by sims since the dawn of time. Or since the dawn of Windows. Or something.
Who wouldn've guessed it? It's a girl!
I cunningly named her Maggie.
It would appear that the stripe on the baby's forehead was a feature of the pre-release version of the skintone. Most of the pictures of sim infants that I've seen were either of ghost babies or from the pre-release version. This is the first normal baby born in my game...
Maggie The Larva is kind of cute. In a generic kind of way.
Like Betty, Bob has a hard time with homework. I love that they do it autonomously, too.
Baby care seems to be largely autonomous as well. This of this picture as a preview of what Bob will look like holding baby Brandi :)
And then it was Friday after school and I figured it was time to invite Betty over.
She said "no" and to call her back later O_O
And then I remembered that Betty has an after-school job at the bookshop. So at least she doesn't suddenly and for no reason hate Bob. She was actually genuinely busy.
Robert then dragged Mags outside and proceeded to scream, rant and rave at her while making poor post-partum Mags run on the treadmill. This is how men tempt fate, Robert. Don't push it with the hormonal mother, buddy!
The next morning, a school- and work-free day, Bob invited out Betty to go... somewhere. Because I forget what this lot is called. They chatted about music.
Bob then checked for any secret boyfriends but none had been picked up over the last week.
As relief flooded through him, Bob decided to be brave and hold Betty's hands.
He could not hold back any loner and confessed his extreme attraction to her.
To my total relief, Unflirty Betty flirted back without going into hysterics on the spot.
Bob then moved in for the kill and a First Kiss was had :D
The flirt-fest continues.
Let me tell you now that IRL if I catch a girl giving my son the eye like that, they are getting chaperoned EVERYWHERE they go. And if I catch my daughter looking at a boy like that, she's getting locked in her room and we're buying a shotgun and putting up a razor wire fence with 250 volts running through it.
And then Bob finally risked it all and asked Betty to be his girlfriend. And she said YES!!!
One final snog as Betty checks the placement of Bob's various organs within his torso and it's off home separately for the love birds!
On the way back Bob I got distracted by some pretty flowers and butterflies which Bob added to his collection.
And then he autonomously did his homework!!! O_O
And then it was 1am on Sunday and I decided that I wanted to see what Maggie looked like as a toddler before I switch back to Betty.
Mags glowered at everyone, ensuring that they celebrate Maggie's birthday.
The two men cheered with all their might. I'd be forced-cheering, too, if I got that much of a hairy eyeball from someone.
Maggie sparkle-butts it on the floor.
She's kind of cute but a little bit scary.
Believe me, kid, I'm biting my knuckles, too, every time I look at you.
She seems to have inherited Mags' nose. If she also got Robert's razor-cheeks, this little girl is in trouble!
That's it from me for now. I will try to get Betty through the week up to the day of her birthday to YA in the next couple of RL days. I'm doing the first generation in a Horror and Halloween Round Robin that
cpowellscircus has
organised on Dreamwidth. I will be cross-posting my entries and advertising the RR + polls here. The founder poll will be up on Monday morning, and once the results are in, I will do my best to complete generation 1 in a timely manner.
