Soooo... I was bothering phoenixfg via Ask on Tumblr about Skyrim and we came to the conclusion that I absolutely must buy it for the PS3 for my husband and for the PC for myself. I then trooped off to various game shops to try to find it at the best price, which was going to be sucky anyway since this is Sparta Australia and our software and game ( Read more... )

Oblivion was my first Elder Scrolls game & is one of my all time favorite games! How are you playing your Dark Elf? Thief, Mage, Warrior or something else entirely? I always love doing Alchemy & would spend my time walking the country side collecting plants :)

I think it was a good choice going with Oblivion, because it is a very good game & you'll get the feel of the Elder Scrolls games & have a lot of fun. And then once you've gotten everything you can out of Oblivion, Skyrim will be cheaper & you can have another amazing experience! Sorry for the long reply, but I love finding another Elder Scrolls fan. I played Skyrim all day yesterday & I love it even more than the Sims! Have fun exploring Tamriel :)

Skyrim is awesome. I have already spent hours and hours playing it! I love that it is similar to Oblivion, but it is like they improved upon all the things that I didn't like and they added some really great stuff to give the game more depth.

Sounds like Oblivion will be a good introduction to the series :) I am not that far into it (haven't made it out of the first dungeon yet) but I really like what I have seen so far. And it does look good so if further graphical improvements were made for Skyrim then that game must look absolutely awesome! Added depth is always great.

I never made it out of the dungeon since I didn't have much time to play so I didn't have time to decide what to do with her. I usually tend towards Mage or Warrior so will likely do one of those or a hybrid if that is possible. From the character description it seems like that might be possible with the Dark Elf, which is why I picked this particular character class to start. A nice all-rounder to let me explore the gameplay :)

Oblivion is an awesome game and I think it was a great idea to get that before Skyrim. I hope you have a lot of fun playing it. :)

After the initial "WTF am I even doing???" it started to get fun and I hated having to exit in order to go to sleep. I wanted to at least get out of the first dungeon dammit! I've been playing Sims exclusively for so long that it's actually really nice to play something else and have that something else be FUN. I didn't want to stagnate with just Sims in the lead-up to Diablo 3 and this is proving to be a fantastic distraction so far.

My only advice to you is that you try to do a lot of the main questline first. When I played through Oblivion the first time I went around and did a bunch of quests and when I finally got around to the main quests they were VERY hard since as you level up the difficulty of the things that you kill increases.
I like to play games other than sims because it keeps me from getting too tired of the game. Diablo 3 looks like a lot of fun too. Who knows when it will actually come out though.

Good advice! I might do a lot of the main quest first and then branch out and explore. I'm a hoarder so I'm picking up all the loot I can find so hopefully my character will have a bit of money when she finally gets out of the dungeon. That way she can buy a better whacking stick and better pants. Her pants really suck at the moment LOL

I pre-ordered the Collector's Edition of D3 today. At the moment they're accepting pre-orders so that's a good indication that the first quarter of 2012 is going to be the release date. It's looking like it might be maybe end of February or some time in March.

My BF got me Skyrim as a birthday gift as I've been wanting a new game for a while. I've only played Morrowind in the series, but barely played it because I thought it was too scary at that time.

So far it's addicting and I lack sleep xD. Gameplay is very similar to Fallout 3, if you would like to try that out too which is also great. People are telling me that I should at least play Oblivion as it was "perfect". Wish I played it before Skyrim! Hard to go backwards when graphics is this amazing Dx

The graphics in Oblivion are pretty good. I read a bit about the development of Oblivion and they came up with a better way of creating the graphics for that vs Morrowind so it looks pretty damn good.

Keeping in mind that I am playing on the PC with a HDMI cable that does seem to be giving me a graphics boost, Oblivion looks damn impressive. I don't know if the hi res picture really shows it but in-game I can see the tooling on the armour that I have picked up and the leather looks awesome. The dungeons have a nice 3D effect, too.

I saw similar improvements in Sims 3 when I upgraded to the HDMI cable and this new monitor so I think the experience of Oblivion, and probably Skyrim, will very much be affected by the quality of the graphics you can squeeze out of whatever you are playing on. If you have HDMI capability on your TV/monitor I highly recommend spending the money on getting the cable.

Oblivion is quite possibly one of my most favourite games. Skyrim is awesome too, but hasn't been as brilliant.. yet :p. I'd really recommend Morrowind too. Sure, the graphics are outdated, but the storyline is wonderful, and keeps you playing for hours :).

I got Skyrim for the PS3 for my husband so I will check out what it looks like. I might get it for the PC for Christmas because I don't think there is much chance of me getting to play it on the PS3. Rod tends to hog it a lot of the time!

Once I'm done with Oblivion and Skyrim I might check out Morrowing. I don't mind outdated graphics. I'm still playing Diablo 2 at 800x600 since that's the best resolution for that game so it's not like I mind outdated graphics. And I still love playing Final Fantasy 7 and 8. For me, RPGs are more about an engaging storyline than the graphics. There is no point to it if the storyline sucks and it just looks pretty. For me to keep playing I need to care about the character and/or the world they live in (if the character is annoying).

If you need more Lockpicks, there's a guy outside of Imperial City along the wall on the eastern side at night that sells them. I remember the first time I played and I was like, "LOCKED CHEST WITH NO LOCKPICKS. ;_; *goes to google*"

Also, UESP.net's wiki is very helpful if you run into a problem. It's my go-to place for any questions I have. :D

*cheers for another ES fan*

That would be http://uesp.net not the one I linked, because my fingers fail at letting me type that correctly. I never get it right when I go to google it, lol. :[
