Sounds like backing out might be a good thing. Sure it would suck to not be a part of it but if you can't afford it you can't. Though maybe in the long run if enough of you back out she'll change her mind? Here's hoping.
As in she still wants $10/week even if you aren't taking classes? Yeah, I think troupe practice & classes should be separate. I don't see a conflict with a troupe lead requiring that dancers attend a class to continue building skills, but I think that's different from using troupe practice time to collect fees, unless you're using the money to pay for the hall rental, or troupe costume or travel expenses.
Besides, it sounds like her dance style is somewhat incompatible with you anyways?
any dancing i do with her i have to pay for. practicing for a show, i have to pay for. etc etc. the money doesnt go to troupe stuff. i dont feel i'm learning anything new and i cant help but compare her to Myrr, and she pales in comparison. lol. yeah i think my answer is staring me in the face.
Totally. I still compare other teachers to Myrr. I've learned to separate a dance relationship from what I pay for. I still have a dance relationship with a teacher I don't take lessons from anymore, but I don't pay for it. I pay for learning.
Another thing I've learned is that rehearsals are about learning to work together for synch, and classes are about drilling, learning new moves & combos, and getting a good workout.
