Your commute sounds almost exactly like mine, except in the morning I got to experience the shuttle bus fun.
The "shuttle buses" were really normal buses that got stolen from their normal route in order to take me and 100's of other people on an MBTA bus tour of downtown Boston. I ended up on a 39 bus, which started by finishing all the stops left on it's route and then took us through the Theater District and by the State House. It was lovely.
