Well I handed my draft to the committee, I gave my departmental colloquium, and now just revisions and edits and studying and a few research tasks until my defense in a week and a bit.

I wrote BASIC on punch cards. Yes, I really am that old.

#2, done that. First computer was a Radio Shack Model 1 with 16K of memory. Heaven was upgrading to 64K. The Model 100 portable came later. That was a great machine. Instant on, external floppy drive for storage (100K capacity) and 4 AA cells for 24 hours run time. For useful work, I don't think we've progressed all that much.

My first computer of my own was a Tandy... 1100 FD maybe? I bought it with prize money from a youth science fiction writing competition, and wrote a program on it that would generate random potentially habitable planet systems and inform you of their various qualities. It was a nice little machine.
