Is there a 4-dimensional equivalent to knots, though, that cannot be untangled unless we have access to a fifth? Is there such a thing as n-dimensional knots that require n+1 dimensions to untie?

I think the analogous higher-dimensional equivalent would be a sphere surface interwoven with itself using the fourth dimension, and that one could continue with n-spheres. Dimensions are tricky things to generalize, though, because the lower ones that humans can intuit sometimes have atypical properties.
