This Is A Call To Arms!!

I am writing this live journal to express my seething rage at the way our (american) government is handling the recent deaster in New Orleans. My family is from New Orleans...I conceder it first and foremost my home....I have friends who still "live" there, I've seen my childhood house covered by 20ft of raising water...seen the people who are the ( Read more... )

as for the second half of your post, how do you propose to do that? or is it just angry ranting? i'll be most interested to hear. or is this more bitching without any idea how to actually fix it? that tends to be a lot of what you read in the media and such nowadays.

Well.... enlightenment86 September 7 2005, 02:20:51 UTC
Its horrible, I was half way to my car with a trunk full of water before I was told nobody is allowed to enter New Orleans....FEMA is responsible for every death that resulted from lack of water/food...The second half was more ranting than an actual plan, I mean there is the obvious.....extermination of the problem...but you could compare the government to a retched Hydra, cut off one head and two grow back. Hardest part of a revolution is starting it, Lenin had the same problem, but trust me I'm working on a plan *twists mustache evilly* if you want to hear it or contribute please let me know.

the government is what we call a bureacracy, i butchered the spelling but you know what the word is. weber, i forget his first name, created the idea of a bureacracy (sp?) and in theory they work incredibly efficiently, but in actuality they can slow things down. FEMA can't just declare stuff, for one they have to wait for the invitation from the Louisiana state government and the city of New Orleans, then they have to get federal approval to go, etc. You and I may be able to load up a truck of water and head out and pull people out of flooded homes, but they have to get a form signed in triplicate by people who have to get permission to sign that form. its a systemic problem inherent in the nature of government and not really the fault of any of the individuals in the institution itself. Unfortunately, the only other choice of efficient government is facism/despotism, and those have their own problems that i don't think we want. etc etc.

I agree that fascism is a poor form of government. Haha that aside, you must realize that we are living under a fascist leader, though he was elected into office he has all the traits and characteristics of Stalin and Mussolini. Onto the bureaucracy, I'm pretty sure all that red tape was usurped during 9/11 and I personally didnt have a problem with it, in times of great tragedy nobody fills out forms in triplicate. About the invitation into the state of Louisiana, the second one of those levees broke the governor was calling for help! The point about being able to drive water to those people was....I'm a college student, what part of my life I dont spend in class I spend in a bong (beer or other) and I could have gotten supplies to those people 3 days before the government did....doesnt that sound criminally inefficient?

Ohh sweet, I miss you! I haven't seen Sarahs place yet...shes been kinda weird lately I miss both of you damnit. Wish we were all back in high school (omg that felt weird to say...even in my head) goofing off in Marx's class watching Ben play baseball and bitching at Matt about tank-ass. Ahh those carefree days...now I have class 4 days a week and more homework than I know what to do with and I'm having to do big boy things. Don't work too hard Jes, and tell your boyfriend I'm always right and to stop trying ;)
