CIVILIAN LIFE:

Q1. Name: Clara

Q2. How did you find out about Elite of the Fleet? I'd seen promotion before but wasn't involved much on LJ except for fic posting. I saw a new recruitment banner and wanted to join the fun.

Q3. When did you first become interested in Star Trek? As a child. My mom had me watching TNG episodes from infancy. I've seen every TNG episode multiple times.

Q4. Why have you decided to join Elite of the Fleet? It will be fun to participate in Challenges and meet new LJ friends

Q5. Who is your favourite Star Trek character? Since I was introduced to Star Trek via TNG, I would have to say Data. His struggle to find his humanity appealled to me. For being a robot he was the funniest character. It's because of him and his struggle that I so love Measure of a Man.

Q6. And the least? I would have to say Neelix. I found him for the most part, useless. Like the writters were trying too hard to make him funny and I hated how he treated Kes. I wanted to say "Dude, how did you get such a hot girl and why do you treat her like crap?"

Q7. Which television (or film) series is your favourite? TNG started my love and the Reboot film brought it full circle. TNG is my first love that I enjoy seeing from time to time for nostalgia and will always hold a piece of my heart. The Reboot is like the new whirlwind affair. We see each other all the time and everything's new and fresh and exciting. We burn so hot and I pray this feeling will last.

STARFLEET LIFE:

Q8. What do you hope to gain from your service in Starfleet? I love meeting new people and having fun. I also like a challenge and what's a greater challnge that joining the best of the best in Starfleet and being successful.

Q9. Is there any occupation in Starfleet you feel you would be particularly unsuited for? Pilot. I can't even drive a car. But I'm a great navigator.

Q10. The four current Academic Tracks at the Academy are Tactics, Operations, Exploratory Sciences and Medical Sciences. Describe how you could be an asset to each of these departments.
Tactical: Well, I don't know about Piloting, I can't even drive a car, but as for Command; I am a born leader and cool under pressure. In my school and work experiences, I m usually regarded as a leader. People look to me for guidance and advice.
Operations: In this track the best I'd contribute is diplomacy. My anthropology background and innate ability to draw people in to talk to me would make for a great diplomat.
Exploratory Sciences: I watch that program on History Channel, The Universe, and I imagine what could be out there. For my birthday, I dragged all of my freinds to the Planetarium and gave them lectures at every exhibit.
Medical: By profession, I'm a couselor/social worker. I have been in medical emergency situations and have kept my cool. I counsel my students on everything from their family lives to what to do once they graduate.

Q11. What are your top five strengths?
01. Open minded: Dealing with alien culturals can provide for sensitive situations. What if their normal is our taboo? Cultural Relativism is important.
02. Intelligent: I've spent all my life in the pursuit of knowledge. I'm constantly reading and learning. Learning is a lifelong process and I am committed to learning all I can.
03. Creative: I love to be expressive. I write, I dance, I cook, I plan events. I do all I can to express myself. Sometimes, I can have too many ideas, and that can be frustrating because it can make me scattered, but I usually regroup and focus myself.
04. Leadership: I seek out leadership opportunities yet I know that a good leader empowers others to lead. I am comfortable taking a bcakseat when others need the opportunity to shine.
05. Communication: I am committed to open communication at all times. I try to always speak as clearly as I can, being aware of not only the words but tone, facial expression and body laguage I use. Also I seek the same in others, taking in all the messages a person is conveying with words, tone and non-verbal cues.

Q12. What are your top five weaknesses?
01. I can be a bit scattered at times. I have so many ideas at that sometimes I need to take a step back, regroup and focus myself.
02. I take on too much. I commit myself to multiple projects and can find myself overwhelmed. I got to remember that I am capable but so are the other people around me.
03. I can be a know-it-all. I have a great memory so a lot of useless facts are stuck in my head. I can be a bit annoying with all thses tidbits.
04. I am competative. I like to win, to be on top. I can be single-minded in my determination to win. I've got to relax some on that.
05. I am honest. I believe in openness and transparancy so I'm the friend who will tell you you're gaining weight or losing it. I will tell you that you need a haircut or say that your hair looks great. Some people don't want to hear that.

Q13. What is your biggest fear? Being unable to see. Not the 'I'm in the dark and I can't see" or "I have a blindfold on and can't see" kind. I wear glasses and I can't imagine living in a time when there were none. What would my life have been like? My greatest fear is that eventually I will go blind.

Q14. Do you consider yourself to be a leader, or a follower? I believe that leaders empower others to lead. So I would consider myself both depending on the occasion.

Q15. What do you admire the most in your peers? Our ability to use technology. Every generation we become more technoloically savvy and for now we are the elite until the next generation surpasses us.

Q16. You are stranded on a Class M planet that has not been mapped by The Federation. You are only allowed to choose two of the following items to keep with you: a phaser, a tricorder or a communicator. Which two would you choose to have? A phaser and tricorder. I chose a phaser because it can be a useful survival tool. It can be used for protection, hunting, firebuilding etc. And the tricorder because our primary mission is exploration so my duty is to explore.

Q17. Please describe your understanding of the Federation’s Prime Directive. People need the chance to advance (I don't like this word, it implies only one track for growth) without outside interference. History has shown us here on Earth with the imperialism and colonialism, that when more advanced civilizations interfere with less advance civilizations the less advance culture is usually oppressed and exploited. The Prime Directive tries to help prevent this.

Q18. The United Federation of Planets includes more than 150 member planets, and the galaxy has many more besides. Which planet do you most want to visit? Betazed. It's described so beautifully and my fave female character, Deeana Troi, is from there.

KOBAYASHI MARU:

The following questions describe situations you may commonly find yourself in as a member of Starfleet. You will be read the scenario, and then given two options to choose from. You may expand upon the reasons for your choice, but you must indicate one of the two that you feel best describes your likely response to the situation provided.

Q19. Service in the Fleet can be draining at the best of times, and on one particular day everything seems to have gone wrong. You’re exhausted, but your shift is finally over and it’s time to unwind. Your roommate is already on their bed when you get back to your quarters. Do you:

a. Settle in for a lengthy chat with them - you’d really like to vent about your day and you’d quite like to hear about theirs too. It’s a bit of a ritual by this point anyway. Maybe you’ll even head out to the Rec Hall together to unwind over a card game with the others.

I am a talker and my roomate would be used to this by now. Also. she'd know I'm a great listener and she'd know I'm a great sounding board. I'm also a social person and so playing cards as a way to unwind sounds great to me.

Q20. You’ve intercepted what sounds like a pretty important transmission - you feel like the Captain needs to know. When you report, do you:

b. Give them the facts, but your interpretation and the way it fits into context is more important. The Captain wasn’t there, after all - the way you explain it could make all the difference.

I am assigned as a communications expert. If the captain wanted to know just the facts and not my interpretation he'd just ask for a copy of the recording. I think he'd want my human reaction.

Q21. There are many decisions to be made in Starfleet, and some are harder than others. Faced with a decision where things could go wrong in any number of ways, do you:

b. Try to understand the perspectives of the people involved. They are the ones that will be influenced by the decision, and conflict is the least desirable outcome. Be certain to be tactful, even if some of the message is lost in the communication.

We need to be empathetic. It can help you understand other peoples reaction and feelings and anticipate them.

Q22. The day-to-day life of Starfleet can be quite arduous at times, and quite exciting at others. Everyone has their own way of approaching everyday work, but would others see your approach as:

a. Planned and orderly. You seem to prefer to have decisions made and matters settled, rather than hanging over your head. You appear comfortable when in control over such matters. You seem to be task-oriented, and plan ahead.
b. Flexible and spontaneous. Others think you prefer to adapt to the world around you rather than organise it. You seem to be more comfortable staying open to information and experiences rather than making decisions immediately. You appear fairly casual, working in bursts and motivated by deadlines.

I kept both because honesly I approach life using both. Sometimes you need to plan things out but you can't be so rigid because sometimes things don't go according to plan and you have to able to adapt.

Q23. You can earn 5 points for your future Track by promoting the community in your Journal. Please link the post here if you wish to do so: http://acacia-123.livejournal.com/45785.html
