You know you're from Lancaster County when...

A staple in my fridge is Turkey Hill Iced Tea. Turkey Hill being a brand that is originally from Lancaster Co. PA, where I am from, and the iced tea being a staple there, sold in every grocery store, even the wholesale place, and there's a Turkey Hill convenience store about every mile, so it's pretty much everywhere. I think a store there would ( Read more... )

I am exactly the same way about Peet's coffee. (a Bay Area chain) I was delighted to find out it was readily available for purchase in many of the large supermarkets here.

We are rather serious about our coffee, as you can see by this instructional video:

I still have yet to try Cup of Joe here, which I've been told is "good" coffee. I think I've had one cup of coffee in Ohio that knocked my socks off, which was at a place called the Skillet in German Village.

I will have to let my boyfriend know since he loves coffee!

There's a coffee shop in Grandview downtown called Stauf's that sells some good gourmet coffee. My boyfriend is crazy about their "Highland Grog" flavor. But not being a coffee drinker myself I couldn't tell you if it's good coffee in general.

How I wish they sold Turkey Hill in the UK! I miss it so much, so I totally understand you!

I thought you had to be born in Lancaster Co. to have a passion for it, so I am glad to hear a transplant can love it too!

That sounds yum, I love iced tea.

I agree though, there are some things in Napa that I grew up with that you can't find anywhere else. When I go back home to visit, I always have to get certain things. At least you can find it somewhat close!!

Yes, it is lucky that it is here. It was more the "it was here and they took it away!" aspect which really got to me.

I feel the same way about Cactus Cooler. Its a reminder of my youth in Southern CA. I don't drink soda much anymore but I rarely see it here in Northern CA.

My dad lived in Shrewsbury PA for the first 5 years of his life before his family moved out here to CA. When I was back there visiting family that live in Northern MD I remember seeing Turkey Hill stores when we were driving in PA but I never tried the tea. My dad said he always missed Utz chips (we ordered them for him for xmas one year). When my grandma would go back East she would stock up on King syrup which we don't have out here either (I have fond memories of her waffles on Sunday mornings with that syrup.. I'm thinking of ordering it, hehe).

Utz are the best, yes! I have my mom bring them when she visits me.

Yeah, it's funny those things you don't even realize are local until you move away. When my brother and his wife moved out to California they didn't realize King's Syrup wasn't going to be available there either. I've also noticed things like brands of canned vegetables. How are LeSeur peas not available in Ohio?! So strange.
