In February this year, I started watching Dawson's Creek for the first time. And today, 10 months later, I finally got to the series finale.
I'd known before I started watching that Joey chose Pacey in the end. Somewhere along the lines I'd picked up that Jen died, and that Jack and someone else raised her baby. I knew they'd taped scenes with Andie, but they were cut - though they were in the extended cut. It's hard to avoid spoilers when you're almost a decade behind.
But anyway. I wasn't a huge fan of the last two seasons... That's part of why it took me SO long to finally get through them. And part of me wanted to just jump to the finale to see how thing wrapped up in the end... and to see Andie again. Cause if my earlier entries about the show weren't clear enough, I really, really loved Andie. And Pacey with Andie.
I liked how the finale went back to the core group of characters. And even though I was never especially attached to Jen, and knew the death was coming, I still cried. I'd already been tearing up, but as soon as she said, "Hi Amy. It's mom," they started to fall.
Jack and Doug together just seemed weird and forced. And the Dawson/Joey/Pacey resolution felt like it lacked something. I still think I like the idea of Pacey/Joey better than how any of it actually played out. Plus I just can't fully get behind them when I thought Pacey/Andie worked so much better together. I wanted to like Pacey/Joey, I really did, but Pacey/Andie just came out of nowhere and took my heart and wouldn't give it back.
And I'm a little bitter and feel like Andie got the short end of the stick. Thankfully the finale on my DVDs was the extended one, so I had the surprise of seeing Andie (I thought it'd be the original without her), but I think it sucks they cut her from the version that aired. I think it sucks that they wrote her off the show. And why isn't she on any of the DVD season covers? She should at least be on the third season one, when they started putting Jack on there.
Clearly I'm way too protective over this character that no one probably cares about anymore... and who knows how many cared even back then, considering all I ever heard about was the great love triangle. But all I want to do now is rewatch season 2 with all the Pacey/Andie adorableness.
In more recent TV news, I've started watching Once Upon A Time, and freaking love it. Snow White/Prince Charming is one of my new favorite ships. I didn't think much of them at first, but then Snow's badassery in the third episode totally hooked me.
