Staff parties are weird... at least for me they are. I seem unsure how to act, how to fit in with the temporarily different socio-environment. I mean, I see these folks every day, and get along fine, chatting over coffee and invoices. But stick me in Tony Roma's (shudder) at a loooong table, and I suddenly need a drink. Heh.
Reminds me of my work staff party. It's usually on a Saturday night and I usually go to the Warehouse after seeing as it's across the street from the bar. I work for a dealership so you can just imagine the type of people that would be there.

But getting really drunk (with the free drinks!) makes it at least a little less awkward. As long as the conversations don't turn to shop talk...

Such conversations invariably turn to shop-talk. They really have to. It can be semi-interesting if you're with the company, but the spouses and dates squirm. Their confusion belied by pleasant smiles, and the quiet tinkle of ice cubes.
