I had to write to the yuletide_admin folks this morning and tell them that I am defaulting from this year's exchange. I am appalled by my behavior and very much ashamed. My integrity is very important to me and I feel awful

En darling, things happen. We can't foresee what life will be like a month down the line when we sign up for things, we can only hope it'll all work out. I respect the fact that you stepped back rather than throw something together that would please neither you nor the recipient.
And there's no need ever to apologise for being human!
Thanks, Kei. I did try, but it just seemed that each succeeding sentence only sucked more. And I even did like the assignment. I am determined though, to finish it at some point and I will post it as a New Year's Resolution fic. Thanks for your support and commiseration.
I really feel for you! Things can happen when we least expect. I still haven't finished my Wraeththu story (due two months ago, which I spent hours upon, hours of time working on! I don't even know if they will still accept it). I just have not been able to stabilize my writing situation. Might have almost worked it out--time allotments, personal space, computer issues, etc.--but there was nothing I could do up to this point.
Thanks, dear Oshun. I do feel horrible, though. I hate to make commitments and back out of them. Hopefully the new year will bring a new attitude toward writing and I'll finish the piece I started. I hope that your situation settles come New Year, too. Thanks for commiserating with me!
I understand where you're coming from, and how awful it feels to break your word, but it does happen, and I'm sure they know it was not done lightly. *hugs*
Thanks, Red. I will hopefully finish the piece anyway and post it as a New Year's resolution fic - I appreciate your commiseration. And thanks for the Christmas card!
Oh, En! We all know you don't take these things lightly! If you've had to pack it in, I certainly know that it must be because of some insurmountable obstacle, be it time, family, or other.
This is one blip on an otherwise faultless record, and I'm sure the mods will let you do a NYR if you want to tackle Yuletide again. And, hey-- as one who ended up on the pinch-hit list at the 11th hour last year, I can say with good authority that their pinch-hit squad is second to none, and I had an embarrassment of riches awaiting me on Yuletide morning.
Fret not; you are stil A-#1 in my books!
xo
(I'm still not done with mine and I have to go to bed!! GAH!!!)
Thanks, K. Elynross did say that if I complete a NYR story - or even finish this one as an NYR (which I do hope to do), then if I wanted to play next year, I could.
It was just one big piece of suckage, I tell you. Sentence after sentence and I just couldn't put out something that I'm not proud of. Maybe approaching it freshly after a week or two will improve it.
But now, see, I can begin on the SV story. And I'll still read your Yuletide fic avidly, even if I don't really know Duran Duran from Adam (other than pictures and a couple of songs) - I'll watch the vid, though.
Thanks for your commiseration, darlin'. xo back atcha
I completely understand. This is way too busy a time of year for writing fics. I know how you feel but sometimes other things do get priority over fanfic. *hugs*
Oh geez, Elfy, I did have it started - oh - about 1,000 words worth, but I hadn't even gotten to my recipient's core request at that point, so I couldn't just "break out" the part of it that may have been relevant.
It seemed that every sentence I wrote just sucked more. Hopefully after Christmas I can give it a fresh look and complete it for the NYR challenge.
And yes, it was getting to the point where I was crabby about "having to do things for my family" - Sheesh. Priorities skewed much?
Now - ONWARD! I do have a SlashyValentine story to think about! - But first, Christmas with the fam.! As it should be.
