Writer's Block: No Laughing Matter

Nothing is too serious to joke about.  Humor can be found in everything... Which is sometimes what makes the most unbearable things endurable.  I've come to find that even those who face "tragic" issues, such as terminal illness, can alleviate the darkness of their situation with a bit of humor and levity.

Do you not think that while anything can be laughed about that there are better ways of demonstrating that humor--making it palatable to everybody? For example, I know I have not always appreciated certain comedians' racist or sexist jokes. While they may be based in truth to some extent, and therefore funny, they seem to put up barriers between people. That is not something I find to be a laughing matter.

I think there are two kinds of humor. They appear the same, initially, but the difference lies in where the humor emanates from. Some humor comes from truth/kindness/love/understanding, and other humor stems from hatred/bigotry/evil/antagonism. The latter of the two is certainly never a true laughing matter.

For an example of the latter, one need only take a look at the "humor" of Zadornov towards Americans, which is based in dislike/antagonism.

True humor leads to understanding, enlightenment, and shared kindness. The other "humor" is simply barely-concealed hatred in action.
