Are so weird, fun, disorientating, exciting and plague the waking brain with their meaning.  I don’t have them nearly has much as I did when I was young (maybe my need for wish fulfillment has decreased with age and stability?) but they do visit from time to time.  This morning I had a crazy dream involving Kevin Shields and I am obsessed with it.  ( Read more... )

I'm not a psychologist, but I believe that the brain explores hidden fantasies through dreams unconsciously because something gets simulated by i.e. contact or response. I think it is in our very nature to have dreams like this regardless of who are partners are! I have them very infrequently, but generally it is because they were in the direct line of consciousness. There is nothing shameful about it.

It is our brain rebelling against normality, monogamy, and repetition. It is in our vary nature to have multiple partners in life, we are animals. In fact, single relationships are very counteractive, but we do anyway out of some strange morality and respect for our loved ones.
The real danger is getting caught up in the fantasy vs. reality, but otherwise roll with it! ;)

I agree. It seems like the brain occasionally decides to break free from the daily realities and uses the strong mental/physical sensations of sex to explore a life completely of our creation.
I am really intrigued with how sex dreams stay with you for so long afetrwards. I would never act on the impluse of this dream but it has been hard to shake.

It's harder when the situation is with someone you see in person occasionally, talk about awkward!

There was a girl I was completely in love with who told me she had a dream where she and I were having sex. Unfortunately, she was a Jungian therapist so she saw it in archetypal terms, that the dream of sex was symbolic of how intimate our relationship was becoming. I was a Freudian and I thought that her dream of sex meant that she wanted to have sex with me.
