I feel the same way as you as far as donating money versus supplies to people I see on the streets. I live in NYC so every day I come across dozens of people on trains, subway stations, street corners, ect asking for money. Even though it is difficult to always pass them by I often do, however when I happen to have any food on me and they are just straight up asking for food I give them that.
Anyway, happy you were able to help out the dog in need!
