thoroughly enjoyed this-- i have two murakami tomes (the wind-up bird chronicle and hardboiled wonderland and the end of the world) awaiting my attention on my bookshelves and am now further convinced to move them up higher on my "to be read" list.

i also have in cold blood around here somewhere and was thinking of reading that after i finish the alienist by caleb carr (the bard professor, incidentally), unless it ends up feeling like too much bloody crime for one month...

did the roth end up interesting you in his other work? i have american pastoral on my shelf too, but had heard mixed reviews about roth recently, which was odd to me since i'd only ever heard good things.

a really quick, short, fun october read (i've been reading it every year right before halloween for the past couple years) is from the dust returned by ray bradbury. it's complex and yet simple. i look forward to reading it still.
