Okay, guys, so for those of you who are wondering what Zoldark's last words meant, listen up. You need to remember why we were fighting the DC in the first place ( Read more... )

You mean the whole reason they were attacking people in the first place was to fight over who gets to fight the aliens?

No wonder no one ever told me that. It's just...stupid, I'm sorry to say.

It's convenient to misrepresent them, but that's not quite it. They didn't see it as stupid. They saw it as what they had to do, because they got it in their heads that unless they were the ones in charge, no one would be able to stop the aliens.

Yeah. It was stupid.

When you put it like that, maybe stubborn would be a better word.

In a sane world, the DC would have worked with the S EDF, and put all of this effort and weapons development into constructive things. I guess that's an impossibility now, though.

... You're right. In a sane world, that would be the case...

For better or for worse, I don't think their progress in weapon development will be left behind.

So what you're saying is that the DC were making us tougher by declaring war on us? Is that it?

It's possible that's what Zoldark meant with his last words.

That's just ridiculous! Starting a war for that? When we've got all this other crap to deal with?! What the hell was he thinking?! Now, because of him, we've lost a lot of people that could have helped us fight!

I hate to say it, but...if I take a step back and take a look, I can begin to understand Zoldark's train of thought. Throughout human history, the most technological advancements were brought on by periods of war. Gunpowder, steel ships, nuclear energy...all were the direct results of the evolution of war. Even times of mutually-assured destruction brought upon advancement -- if it hadn't been for the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union in the middle of the 20th century on the old Gregorian calendar, I guarantee that space technology would not be as advanced as it is.

But that's not to say I agree with his methods. I hate seeing people die. Especially for reasons such as this. With all of the factions that are attacking us, did we really need yet another to deal with?

Actually, I'm pretty sure gunpowder was discovered by the Chinese when they failed to make an immortality elixir.

No, they didn't need to attack us. I don't care if wars have spurred forward technology. Technology still advances whether or not we go to war.

War takes away all that is precious to us. It takes people, uses them for all that they are worth, and then throws them away like trash. It breaks apart families, dulls our hearts... it makes us weak, lost, and confused.

But at the same time, if you cannot accept the consequences that come with war - the consequences that will ultimately lead to your desires - you have no business fighting at all.

To gain a peaceful future, lives will be lost. Others must be sacrificed. To eliminate war, we must fight one, until none others oppose us.

This is the way of the world. If you refuse it, you too will be trampled into dust.

Accepting them and liking them are two different things.

If I refuse it, I'll be trampled into dust, huh?

You can't say that with certainty.

... I believe that people don't have to be this way.

Yeah, it sounds like he had some very compelling rhetoric there. When the leader of a terrorist group talks pretty, it's surprisingly easy to forget how many unrelated people get killed by their actions.

You know, a drink actually sounds pretty good right now

There's a bar that opened up in Shibuya a week ago. Want to go see if it's any good?
