I agree. It's good to have a place like this, where everyone can relax without having to travel far.

On one hand, it is nice to get off base from time to time, but then we really should be on standby...

Exactly, standby means all pilots should stay close to the base. So this place in a way ensures that they do not wander too far away.

Well, there's also the problem of someone drinking too much, but I trust everyone to know their limits and drink responsibly.

Tokyo's very different from City 7...it can be a little intimidating even to me, just in sheer number of people and military incursions and giant monster attacks. Still a lovely place, though.

I get what you mean. I've lived on colonies and the wilderness a lot and a city is always so lively it can be almost overwhelming. I like roughing it.
