Tehanu woke on a lumpy bed with lights shining on her as bright as midday, though she knew it to be evening. The air smelled old and stale ( Read more... )

Hawke has stayed nearby, waiting for the girl to wake. She wasn't in fact intending to hover, just standing to the side talking to someone, but no doubt it seems like looming to the frightened girl, and she at once backs away to give her space, keeping her movements and expressions as non-threatening as possible.

[Teo has also stayed near Dragon Girl, and as soon as she wakes puts his paws up on the bed and rests his head on them, making small whimpering noises. She might not hear them, she's making a lot of noise. Tentatively he licks at her hand. She smells of panic again, and that helpled last time]

This is how it was for us.

Awoke screaming, in shock, galvanized into murderous action, tore apart a bunch of assailants using only his newly glowing/newly human hands -

- all right, the chain of similarities broke off somewhere a few links ago. The main thing is, Anders knows what this is like. Justice knows what this is like, perhaps even more so. The pounding of the blood, the dulling of reason, the shriek of the senses.

The conviction that something has gone utterly and profoundly wrong, that it's irreparable. The horror.

The merry troupe of dragon-liberators have managed to slip the bonds of Geldeheim before Justice could do something drastic, and the Geldeheim menagerie remains otherwise intact, but it's taken some talking-down and copious distraction to settle that restless spirit. The distraction has taken the form of long reminiscences about Domestic Animals We Have Known. The adventures of Mr. Wiggums the Tower mouser have been shared for the first time in their entirety; Ser Pounce-a-lot stories usually take ( ... )

"I know," Hawke says softly. She's no healer, certainly hasn't Anders' experience, but she's seen battleshock, and this looks a lot like it. She'd already taken off what armor and weaponry she was carrying, stacking them off to the side; can't leave them entirely, not with the possibility of imminent dragon, but she didn't want one of the first things the child saw to be an obviously skilled fighter. Though from the looks of it, any adults are a problem.

What has this girl been through? Who betrayed her trust so thoroughly, who permitted whatever happened to her ( ... )

Roxie had settled into something like meditation, or sleep - though it would be an odd girl who could sleep standing up, leaning just a barest bit against a wall. Neither the harsh lights nor the cat stories disturbed her.

Her eyes open all at once, sharp and alert, when Therru screams, but she doesn't move from her spot near the bed, to the side, in the girl's peripheral vision.
