The fee had been paid and the secret to passing given (apparently one needed to bring a quantity of Antivesuvian soil to pass through safely, so somewhere in the station was what was essentially an excavated pleasure garden). Clearly people lived here once. But now there's no atmosphere and only a little light, making for a perpetual dusk. People might find the same symbol graffitid everywhere though: two crossed blades. Any older markings are obscured by age.
At the center of the city there is another giant, brassy dome like the one on Antivesuvio, this one with what appears to be a transmitting dish on top. It points in the direction of the gate. Standing nearby, whether one uses magic or scientific instruments to figure it out, one thing is clear: it's draining energy from everything around it. Engineers, mages, and/or Jedi, you might want to look at this.
Investigate however you wish. Close scrutiny may lead to answers or to just more questions.

He put on a headset and leaned back in an office chair cobbled together from shock-absorber springs, the top of a wooden crate, and a broken barstool. "Cain Hargreaves of Senburu Trati'salan, for historians on Antivesuvio, Cain Hargreaves of Senburu Trati'salan, to reach Historians on Antivesuvio. Does anyone hear me?" he said, not really sure of transmission protocol since it hadn't ever come up.
